Question re. FUN 2023

It’s been 15 years since I attended a show. Is it still mostly cash on the floor, or can I get by with a debit card? I almost never use cash in my daily life anymore. I suppose I could go find an ATM before I set foot on the bourse, but I’m concerned about the security implications of carrying cash on my person.

Maybe an ironic question, since I’ll be carrying some centuries-old cash in my pocket, anyway…
The last show I was at was the ANA WFOM in Chicago. I was helping behind a table as a dealer, so I didn't get to see as much action on the floor as I usually do. But, from what I saw as well as my experience as a behind the table, is
that it is still mostly cash on the floor with the exception of checks from time to time from known dealers and past known customers. Other than that, I have never seen a single card transaction on the floor aside from coin supply from wizard.
Have fun at FUN

Some dealers will do CashApp, Venmo, Zelle, PayPal etc. A lot of cash is still done. Some will do checks. I'm at FUN for two days.
Looking for Top Pop Mercury Dime Varieties & High Grade Mercury Dime Toners.
Look for the guy in the funny hat.
First time I will have worn it to a show in 15 years.
First time I will have been to a show in 15 years. My last FUN appearance was in 2006.
@lordmarcovan .... Bring cash and a bodyguard....
Cheers, RickO
Will you be my bodyguard, @ricko? Bring your avatar!
My experience has been cash is king but some dealers will accept checks with references or prior business.
it's crackers to slip a rozzer the dropsy in snide
Love that hat!
@lordmarcovan .... If I were in the area, I would be pleased to be your bodyguard. I always brought my avatar to all coin shows. Unless I am flying, I am never without it. Since I am a tactical and defensive firearms trainer, I must practice what I preach. Cheers, RickO
@lordmarcovan for the Harry Bass sale if cash shy you could just sell a kidney

I almost always use a check. Never had a problem.

ATM's only allow a certain dollar amount withdrawal per 24 hours.
A problem I just realized. Didn’t bring my checkbook to the show today. Will do it tomorrow.
In the meantime, that ATM limit will help me stay sane and safe (from myself).
Posting my live walkaround pix on CoinTalk, if anyone is interested.

I’ve posted this previously, but will repeat it, since it’s on point.
My very first coin show was FUN in Ft. Lauderdale, somewhere around 2017. I had no idea that credit cards just don’t work. I saw a nice Seated Quarter in the grade I wanted for my Type Set, and we agreed on a price of around $1,800 or so. I then took out my credit card, and he laughed, politely explaining what was said above in this post. He saw that I was surprised and flustered, not knowing what to do, as I really wanted the coin. He said to me, “Take the coin home, and just mail me a check tomorrow.” I was flabbergasted, as he didn’t know me from a hole in the wall, and back then, I had no relationships with dealers at the show who could vouch for me.
His name is Gary Adkins, and I love him to this day for the trust he showed in me.

I saw you Lord M but you were engaged in conversation with an ancients dealer so i didn't interupt.
Then I lost track of you.
I'd like to say hello if I see you tomorrow.

The bow tie most likely did the trick.
Cash is best but some dealers will take a check.
Please do. I’ll be back tomorrow. The ancients dealer you likely saw me talking to was Tom Wood, a new friend I met just this morning, who also gave me the “just take the coin and pay me later” line.
It was a modest purchase, so I paid him after I went to an ATM. Had dinner with him and other new friends tonight. None of whom I’d ever met before today, though I had made online purchases from one of them.
Woman today “manning the table” basically wanted a blood, urine, & semen sample when I mentioned I needed to write a check. Guess it doesn’t help I look like a homeless drug addict hippie.
@sparky64 caught up with me today, at the NGC table.
Speaking of which, I bought this 1702 Wildman from Karl Stephens, and walked it straight over to the NGC booth, so off it goes.
I hope it straight grades. Mr. Stephens, being candid, said it had a light brushing in the past, and gave it 50-50 odds at a straight grade at NGC (he was less optimistic for its odds at PCGS, so I went NGC on this one).
The eye appeal is definitely there (nice subtle colors in the cabinet toning), so even if it comes back with a “details” grade, I should have no trouble flipping it. (Straight grade, and I’m keeping it.)
Rob, I think I’ve met Tom Wood, isn’t he from Charlotte?

He’s from the piedmont area of NC, I know that much.
What do you do if one of your sidearms tarnishes? Throw it away?
Lord Marco - just went to your CT thread - great pics reminded me of my last days! Love the pic of ldhair, we hung out alot early in the show, last time I saw him was 11 pm on Thurs nite and he was still goin' strong.................
I’ve talked to him before, that’s him, he’s really cool. And I think Michael might know him too.
