how much in exchange,for silver or gold bullion, should i expect for 18# of sterling silverware?

    Where do you plan to dispose of the sterling? Coin shop? ebay? I will venture a guess that you will get 25% discount on the sterling, but perhaps closer to melt on ebay (which by the time you figure in fees, shipping, hassle, etc.... you will probably get a little more in your pocket, but probably not too much more)

    And of course... try selling on the Buy Sell Trade on this forum.

    plan on selling here or a coin shop,BTW this is not a for sale ad just info gathering.
    i don't know where to start so an asking price would be a good start.
    my preference would be to get bullion for it because thats where any cash i got for it would go.
    i understand that people will want to make their cut off of it.
    my kids have shown no interest in it even after i showed them the melt price.

    If you have any knives the handles are weighted inside and that material is not silver

    FYI....common sterling silver ware, is the "Arm Pit" of silver. You're lucky to receive 10% below melt value.

    yes i am aware that the knife handles are weighted and the blade is usually steel.
    honestly i wasn't expecting to get melt value.
    most of what i have is 1910 Alvin and some heirloom sterling from the 40's

    Your silverware may be worth more as a set than the melt value of the metal. Do your research.

    i have watched several online sites that sell silverware,real sterling,and it is not moving.
    of course it maybe over priced on those sights.

    I think the best way to make make money with both china settings and sterling dinnerware is to buy as cheaply as possible in bulk and sell to those that need a piece or or two to a buyer that is missing a piece for their own set.
