    I see this pair as a set too.
    One Cap struck on flip over 5c and other on copper 1c.
    Works for me.

    The 1896 is most likely the most amazing Liberty 5c error known to exist.
    Jon Sullivan had it available a few years ago.

    Cool stuff, but I'm also wondering how this is a set as well. One is 1896, the other is 1906. Both die caps, but a set?

    I would consider a "set" and a "mated pair" two totally different things. A "set" of Jefferson Nickels can be put together with all different dates and mint marks.

    The nice thing about a set, is that anyone can create one for any reason. Here, it's nice that they are 10 years apart and both obverse die caps.

    A mated pair is interesting because you can pair and obverse and reverse die cap together and only those two can be mated.

    Sweet, but they might have been together before... As the same person who smuggled them out of the mint might have worked there between 1896-1906 ;)

    I like die cap and full brockage reverse. I think those are very nice mint errors.
