The following was recently posted in a thread about Stewart Blay on another forum by an individual claiming to be a knowledgeable coin dealer:
"I have never claimed to know everything. But much if not most of what is posted on CU's coin forum is completely false nonsense propagated by naive, know-nothing collectors and amateur dealers, which is why I will not visit it. Just the facts, please."
I do not know who this individual is or the company. The content provided on this forum is educational and beneficial. So, if I stick around and continue to learn, please forgive me for my attendance.

Like any forum, there are experts, wannabes, amateurs and scammers. After a while here, you get to know who to trust and who to ignore.
Sounds like that poster must have been banned here and has sour grapes. Best to ignore the sound and the fury, signifying nothing.

Generally, I've noticed that if a member states something agreeable to the reader, he is considered a coin-savant. He is a wannabe, amateur, or scammer. If it is controversial and the reader disagrees.

Wait, there's another forum?
Some of the foremost experts in their respective fields are members here. That comment you read elsewhere is nonsense. As has been suggested, I suspect the culprit is a former (banned) member.
Disregard that comment by him, I tried to give that poster the benefit of the doubt despite his reputation, but this comment solidifies said reputation.
This forum, which is quite active compared to others, is a plethora of insightful knowledge from some of the most well respected people in the hobby. As with any online forum, you’ll learn who to avoid and who to listen to.

I just made the mistake of reading that comment. Since everything you read on the internet must be true ... I am truly distressed.
A few months ago(?) I vowed not to converse with that poster again. The quoted post of his serves as a good example why I made that decision.

I will consider the source that made that comment on the CAC forum. I have gotten to a point where I don’t even bother reading his worthless posts or comments. When he admitted that his company takes details coins and doctors them I moved on.

If that was posted in a thread about Stewart's passing then it appears to be in rather poor taste, even if it were in response to another thread. Just take it to a PM and don't muddy up a thread where folks are paying tribute or sending condolences. Just my opinion given what we have in this thread and the fact that I am not familiar with the background.

I have observed that incorrect information posted is usually corrected by other posters.
It’s interesting, there really wasn’t much background. This poster started the thread about Stewart’s passing, and in the comments, he just had to throw it out there that he heard about it from Google, not the “cu forums, the land of fake numismatic news”
I believe you are, however, familiar with the poster. He had encounter with you on a thread about conservation where he claimed your analogy was bizarre and your avatar pic was “weird” 😂

I believe I am going to adopt @MFeld's strategy regarding this particular poster after more than a few threads I've seen of his.
Whatever they may say at another forum, I'm particularly glad that I have this forum and NGC's, where informative posts are created each day and I can share some of what I've learned.

why does he even get so many comments?
"much if not most" and "completely false" are such a sweeping statements. How did one come to THAT conclusion? I've come into this forum for about 20 years and have never got that impression of the posters here. I've been going to shows since 1992 and have a good idea what the coin market is about and I'm pretty sure this forum (and NGC as well....although I don't really post there anymore) doesn't have "most" information that is "completely false". That is utter non-sense. It's best, IMO, to ignore such non-sense and move on.

My experience on the CU forum to a numismatic question: 25% of the answers you receive will be from the worlds acknowledged experts on the subject, probably those who literally "wrote the book" on the subject. 75% will be from folks with expertise ranging from almost world class to zero. You just need to know who is who! To be fair, on a lot of subjects there is quite a bit of difference of opinion even between world class experts.
I’m going to say this is an excellent forum. 👍. Trolls are easy enough to ignore.

I don't tread over there on their message board, but I went to look. Not sure I know who that poster is in the real world, but I'm sure I'm not missing anything. Sounds like a turd. Whatever.
One thing I did notice was that @MFeld pointed out Stewart's old 1807 Quarter.
How nice a guy was Stewart? He took the time to explain that coin to me, someone he didn't know and who only had limited exposure from this board ... letting me know where he bought it, what he thought of it, and then after a half dozen back and forth PM's, he ended up sending me a very large, high-resolution image of it (which I still have). If I could own any US coin, regardless of value, but I had to keep it (could never sell), I might choose that one. I thought then, and still think now, that it is one of the absolute finest Draped Bust Large Eagle coins in existence.
The thing about this board, like many have said, there are some of the finest Numismatists of our generation lurking and posting here ... some who literally wrote the book, and many who raised the bar ... and some of them are very engaged with giving comments and providing insight to us regular Joe's.
Sure, we have some wannabe's and some just plain dontknowjack's ... some antagonists and some hey! hey! lookatme's ... but this place is a pretty awesome place for knowledge if you separate the plentiful wheat from the bits and pieces of chaff.

This member was given the hammer over at the CAC forums, possibly by a “popular vote.” There were a lot of complaints about that poster.

Great news- I had stopped cruising that forum because of the fun sponge- good riddance.
Scratch my previous comment - the ban was only temporary. I guess it’s better than nothing!

Paste the quote into Google to find the location. I found it in 10 seconds.
My Google search only found this thread! Maybe Google was trying to protect me from disinformation?!
