How Many Morgan’s Do You Need To Finish Your Collection
As for myself I still need 19.But I really don’t think I’ll ever purchase a 1889-CC 1895-P or a 1893-S.So I guess I’m still hunting for 16 more.I’ll just keep chipping away 1 or 2 every so often and see where that gets me.I just don’t want to settle for a low grade filler that I would sell later after I upgraded it so why bother with that.Recently I acquired a 1903-O so I’m getting there slowly.
All the tough ones now for me!
P.S.I realized something today just thinking,I never was much of a saver when it came to cash but I have accumulated thousands in Morgan dollar values in a few years.Maybe it was the feeling of accomplishment,the hunt or something I really wanted that motivated me I guess.Just saving money for that purpose alone like in a savings account is kinda boring.A hobbie or interest that has value,nothing wrong with that.

One, and I don't expect ever to get it. It's the 1893-S; it's too expensive in the minimum grade I would buy for me to be comfortable buying it, so I won't. Unless, of course, I hit the lottery (and I don't play the lottery).
To be clear, the 1895 is not part of what would be my "complete set," since none were struck for circulation, so I don't even count that coin.

As of a few months ago, none! I have 105 coins in my Morgan set and it took me 20 years. I wouldn’t consider the 1895 part of a complete set either and I’m not sure why Dansco put that hole in the album.

Except for the 1895, which will never happen, I have had the 97 coin set complete in PCGS slabs for 15 years or more.

I agree with you here. Something to be said about the feeling of accomplishment lets you "save money" easier this way.

Only collected a date set of 28pcs. Already finished it rarest were in VF/XF-condition most UNC.
Never ever buying all mint marks of 95pcs.
I don't have time or money to do that.
I just want to experience other things in life than plain coin keeping.0 -
I have probably had 65% of the 95 at one time or another. They used to be affordable in the low BU's. I had mostly PL's and one or two DMPL's. Had quite a few nice AU's but never any lower grades than that. Never had the super keys. I just never developed the desire for a complete collection. Never even had an album.

I would need 95 of them I guess. Just sold off 25 common dates a few weeks ago.

Technically there are 97 excluding the 95P, however the Greysheet always listed the 4 main 78 P versions (8TF, Rev 78, Rev 79, and 7/8) 79capped CC, 79S rev 78, 82 O/S, 87/86 O, and 1900 O/CC in their price guide since there was interest in these VAMS. Whether you feel these are important for the set, that is up to you.
Myself, I added the 78P's, 79S rev 78, 82O/S and 00 O/CC to my set. I didn't deem the capped CC and 87/86 that critical to the set since there are hundreds of VAMs and where do you stop.

I finished my Morgan Dansco date set about 6 years ago. All MS63-ish with the 93-94 keys in AU55 and the 95 in AU53. It was very important to me to not have just the cheapest common coin for each year so I added in a 78 8TF, 2 additional CC's, the low mintage 99 as well as a few others. I'm so glad I finished when I did, the value of it has just about doubled since.

I somehow managed to put together a very basic type set 1878-1904,1921 in Rattlers - but excluding the rarities. So I have the three 1978 types (7/8/7over8 TF) a PL, and a DMPL, all mint marks, but I'm missing the expensive dates : 1892,93,94. I doubt I'll ever afford them but a dream is always nice to have. I chose the rattlers specifically for eye appeal, and seem to have some undergraded coins, of which I am proud. Anyone seen or heard of a 1893-S in a rattler ??? I'll try to post a photo of the collection later.

I have a whole bunch of Morgan’s, mainly raw, but over half of them are 1921-D’s. About 12 years ago I was into trying to cherry-pick all the 1921-D Vams in the “Fun with 21” VAM booklet. I have many of the ones in the book, including most of the rare ones, but some are basically unobtainable where only 1 or 2 are known to exist. So I gave up on that pursuit. I was never really interested in trying to complete a date/mintmark set of Morgan’s for some reason.

Just the 93 S- I wish I would have pulled the trigger on that one before the prices have gone through the roof. Now it is hard to justify paying what they are selling for these days.

I only need one, the 1893-S, which I will purchase eventually.
I've been collecting Morgans for probably 15 years, and as I'm only in my 40's, I have plenty of time to pursue that last one (hopefully). I used to think that having every coin in AU-MS condition to maintain a sense of unity was important, but I've leaned to be more forgiving with some of the key dates and more difficult to attain pieces.
In the meantime, I'm upgrading a few of my existing Morgans, which will be an ongoing endeavor, along with shifting my focus to a Peace dollar set.
Always looking for attractive rim toned Morgan and Peace dollars in PCGS or (older) ANA/ANACS holders!

It took me over 10 years of seeking - I also did my best to select
coins with high appeal, despite the moderate MS grades.
I found that rattlers do command a premium but my early picks
