My main collection is US Half Cents by "major" variety. I also collect by US Type (7070) and have started collections of Proof Mercury Dimes, and Late Date Buffalo Nickels. Half Cents are definitely my #1 passion.
I am a newer collector (started April 2020), and I primarily focus on U.S. Half Cents and Type Coins. Early copper is my favorite.
Dust. Just kidding. I'm like @ChangeInHistory. I'm all over the place but it's pretty much been all coins since 2020 and going for at least one of each type with some upgrades along the way when opportunities came up and the price was right.
Some might think I'm off my rocker but I've been collecting toy animals these last 2-3 years. I frequent a few antique malls and toy animals have got my attention. I buy them mainly for my grandchildren and they have learned to name most of them. And when I take them to the zoo.....look out! They're telling me what those animals are! They're ages are 1 1/2 to 4 years old, 4 of them! But I can add another grandson since Saturday.

The more qualities observed in a coin, the more desirable that coin becomes!
I started collecting coins when I was a kid, eventually collecting every type of coin that was then in circulation: Lincoln cents; buffalo nickels; Jefferson nickels; Mercury dimes; Roosevelt dimes; Standing Liberty quarters; Washington quarters; Walking Liberty half dollars (although the Whitman folder called them "Liberty Standing half dollars"); Franklin half dollars and, after Kennedy was murdered, JFK half dollars. My parents brought back some Morgan and Peace dollars from Las Vegas in 1960, so I have always liked them, also, but was never able to acquire any more until well into adulthood, when I could buy coins.
I have little interest in non-silver dimes, quarters, half dollars and dollars from after 1964, or cents and nickels after the mid-20th century, but I keep the albums full with the mint sets each year. But I still love all the early 20th century silver coins, nickels and cents, and the silver dollars.
I also have a few old notes ($1 and $5 silver certificates from circulation), but I don't actively collect notes.
The complete Lincoln cent collection in a Dansco was the original aim while starting off this hobby and then picked up the 1955, 1972, 1984, 1995 DDO error coins to justify the quest to put together a comprehensive 1909-2009 set including the satin finish etc. of the Lincoln bi-centennial.
Thereafter the trade dollar proofs became the next bucket list item.
Glad it could be finally achieved sans the 1884 & 1885 which is never going to be acquired.

All manner of coins and medals, paintings, art glass, Abe Lincoln postcards. (Other Lincolniana has been stored for posterity, not active.) With sufficient resources, and the room, would collect more, such as Civil War, WWII. Love history. My wife is my partner in some of this, thank goodness.

Oh boy...where do I start? It might be easier to list what I don't collect.
Coins (mainly Seated), Clocks, art pottery, guns, cars, European metalware, Rye/Bourbon, Rottweilers (Rottie #1, and now Rottie #2 puppy)
Just about anything old that looks cool and is uncommon.
