I have a feeling this is in a holder that is FH.

I would comment, not quite but perhaps the bigger issue is the coin looks messed with in the pic provided…
Any chance for photos of both sides of the coin?

I would not call it FH, but the TPG's are not as conservative as I am so it might have squeaked by at one.

    No, circulated (or badly abused).

I would not give it a FH designation.

I am a newer collector (started April 2020), and I primarily focus on U.S. Half Cents and Type Coins. Early copper is my favorite.

Shouldn't be, no. Even from the partial images, the coin looks boinked as well, AU details at best

It's POSSIBLE that the mark may be considered the ear hole by a grader... I would guess not though.

Either way it looks in pretty rough shape. If you are considering it make sure you aren't over paying!

Wow. Is this a recent grade? Might be time to send some coins in to NGC.

$200k difference in price between FH and non FH, at least using the price guide.

I wonder how many times to both services that coin was submitted over the years, to get it in its final tomb.

I don't know this series but is this a solid 65? And does anyone have a pic of a full head to compare the detail or lack of detail??

  • Options
    dollarfandollarfan Posts: 320 ✭✭✭

Looking at the coinweek article it sure doesn't look like it meets the full head to me

That is so sad. Whoever the graders are better stick to AE's because they sure as hell can't grade SLQ's.

This is a tough series, which is part of the reason some dealers specialize in it. The slab pic looks ok but from the first pic, my first thought was au details, cleaned, no FH. I still say it is not a full head, or at least, as Bowers likes to say, it is not a fully struck coin. Just look at the shield.

I hope the unlucky buyer doesn't buy the holder. Because that is definitely not FH!!!

I admit I was wrong on the details part.
I also have a gut feeling if I sent that coin in It would not have that grade. Just saying

I hate strike attributions (FH, FB, FBL) and this even applies to copper color descriptors (RD, RB, BN) since they are another level of subjective analysis piled upon the grade, which itself is hardly set in stone.
