I never really intended on going any further than just the 8 piece type set, but after a while it beat me down. Picked up this nice type 3 for my set. Nothing overly spectacular but my set is all common date and low MS anyway. I will have to pick up the $3 now. I’m sure before long, my 8 piece will be a 12. 🤪

It will compliment the rest of my set nicely. An affordable type set….almost like bullion with a historic flair.

Unfortunately two of the are the toughest coins in the 12 piece set, the Type II gold dollar and the three dollar gold. The Type II dollar is affordable in EF and AU. There is no easy way to get a cheap three dollar gold without problems.

The 12 piece set is well worth having because it represents a good cross section of the U.S. gold series major type designs from the late 1830s until the end in 1933. Beyond that, it’s only a small step to get the Classic Head $2.50 and $5.00. Going further back than that gets very pricey.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

@Downtown1974 ... That acquisition is a 'MILEstone'.... The last four digits of the slab are 5280, the number of feet in a mile... :D;) Cheers, RickO

Nice looking coin, and a great looking set. Good luck on the hunt for the other pieces.

Received a nice, clean Type 2 gold dollar for the 12 piece type set. Big shout out to @Pedzola for spotting this one for me. It’s a bit of a weak strike, but very clean and much nicer than the other two I had been considering purchasing.

Haven’t shared the type 1 yet. Kind of unremarkable with a high mintage but a solid coin for a 62.

That completes the 3 piece dollar set and brings me to just one more coin to get….the big $3. Keeping with the theme of the rest of the set, this will be an MS62. I have a few prospects already in the works for this one.

Love that one! Well done! 👍

Congratulations. Nice looking set. I will have mine completed when I find a type 2 gold dollar.

Careful or you will be covering the mints next, and that means lower standards or bigger checks.

Haha…that is a project I want to do in the near future. I would definitely settle for lower grades with nice appeal for those. I could look at XF coins like this one all day.

That is a great looking gold type set. They are all beauties.

Good luck with the $3. I am missing that one also.
