It’s hard to find a 1798 dollar that doesn’t look worn. There are few 1798 dollars in Mint State, and those that exist are super pricey. I have two, a small and a large eagle piece in VF-EF.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

Since it really do be like that, yes, it's worth buying, whatever they're asking, pay it. In fact, you should double their asking price, they're trying to low-ball you, don't let them get away with it.

Large Eagle type. This coin is slightly important. It was a plate coin in the first edition of Dave Bowers' early silver dollar book, but it disappeared in the later edition.

Unless you post pics and tell us the asking price, it would be impossible to answer your question. There are fake coins, artificially toned coins, harshly cleaned coins, etc in this series that should be avoided. If you want an early dollar, suggest buying one in a top tier grading service slab from an established dealer.
