    Nice, and here’s a 6 toed feline from the home of the late and great Ernest Hemingway. From what we learned there are still at least 48 of these cats on his property and apparently they have better health insurance than most Americans, as the story goes.

    You can count Abraham Lincoln and Mark Twain ("Any man who loves kitties is my friend and comrade without further introduction") as well as the Prophet Muhammad (who the story goes chopped off the end of his prayer rug one day so as not to disturb kitty who was sleeping on the end of it) among the most famous cat lovers.

    New to the forum

    I'm getting into coin collecting thanks to my kiddo. He attended a scout merit badge class and has become very interested in collecting. I'm learning as much as possible to help him along. He absolutely loves coin roll hunting which is something he was doing before I knew there was a term for it.

    Not really qualified as a lurker but first post. My parents got me a penny book when I was very young and just recently found a very nice looking 1909 V.D.B penny in my cup holder and got me interested in looking for my old "collection". Haven't found it yet though.

    Through my very minimal week or 2 internet education I would grade it at XF or AU if it didn't have that corrosion mark on the obverse. Just grading for fun. What do yall think? (I know the pictures arnt the best, only using my phone)

    The obverse is a brown for sure and in person the reverse is a nice red/brown. With just my eyes the VDB is so faint you can barely see a slight reflection!

    My Dad got me my first proof set when I was born, way back in ‘63. Got them up until ‘71 when my brother was born. Seems with one more mouth to feed they weren’t in the budget anymore. Dad put his collection away at that point and there were no more annual ‘we got new sets, let’s spread out the whole collection and enjoy it nights’. When my Dad passed, my brother (whose birth caused the end of collecting) snaked the entire collection...with dollar signs in his eyes I’m sure.
    So I began my own collection with my proof sets as a start. I don’t have very many coins besides those yet but am slowly working on it. I even found a big metal box just like the one Dad kept his in.
    I enjoy my coins and love learning more about them (which is what brought me here). It saddens me that my brother viewed them as merely ‘money’. To me it was a big metal box filled with very fond memories.

    That's one heck of a second prize! I believe that 1982 was one of the years they didn't issue double mint sets, and these individual mint sets sold at the actual mints' gift shops are the only official substitute.

    As I recall, they were flat out making coins for circulation and needed to trim elsewhere and the mint sets were the casualty. :neutral:
