What's your favorite below ten dollar coin that you own?

I was looking through my buffalo nickel collection today and remembering some bargains that I got on some really tough coins years ago when putting my set together. What's your favorite sub ten spot purchase?

I believe you can get nicely toned war nickels for under $10. I have one or two of those somewhere.
Collector, occasional seller
Mine is foreign and came in at a little under $3 (closer to $5 when you add the cost of the self slab).
If US, then this SBA (likely AT but it found a nice spot in my type set album and was $5.95)

Paid 10 for this in its cardboard thing in 2019.

Got this on eBay for $2.25 recently. Look at his funny mutton chops!

Got this for $7

The best bulk bin find for Liberty Nickels... 95 Cents. It's in my 7070:

I’m 40 cents into a 1921 Merc.
I’ll try to locate it so so can get a pic.
“Junk silver” bin at a jewelry store in Tennessee on vacation to see my aunt and uncle as a teenager. Maybe AG or G (if it would even straight grade, can’t remember) but I was, and still am pumped about it.
$9 for this one, I like the square hole

I got this in a large lot of Lincoln cents (and some buffalo nickels) that were each worth less than a buck. The entire lot might have cost $20.
The reverse is pretty hazy. You can barely tell it's a proof from that side.

This one is in my 7070 as well. I broke it out of an ANACS AU58 slab. Paid $7.00 a few years ago, which was still probably to high back then. You'd be surprised how many nice coins you could pick up for under 10 bucks to help fill a type set.... Well, the modern ones anyway. 😉

Now this is one thread I could post on all day long, year after year! 😂 🤣 😉 👍🏻

Originally bought for $1.25 in an NNC slab (see rev shot for the old tag) now with a CAC green bean.
My Collection of Old Holders
Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
Probably not my favorite under $10. coin, but I bought this one for $9. shipped back in 2020,
Bought this one for $9.50 back in 2009.
Face value at a convenience store.
A recent purchase for my Navy nostalgia. I have been aboard the U.S.S. Constitution which is similar, produced at the same time, and even have a piece of deck wood from when restoration work was done. The Constellation was part of the six original frigates produced. Cheers, RickO

I think this was $10, might have been $15

“Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.
I bought a dateless Buffalo nickel roll that turned out to include a 1916 DDO. There are diagnostics on these besides the date.

Not 1 coin per say BUT.....
A few years ago I used to drink Starbucks at least once or twice a day. I calculated the cost and I was spending $2000-$3000 on coffee, which was crazy. So I ended up buying a commercial espresso maker
And started making my own espresso drinks.
I took bucks I was paying for starbucks and started buying mercury dimes. Over time I had enough to put an album together and while a few cost more than $10, the vast majority were under $10

When I was a kid, I would stay at my grandparents on occasion. My grandmother was a shopper, and she liked to take the bus downtown. I knew that if I went with her, there was a good chance she would buy me a coin. We had a department store, Sattler's, that had a coin department. They had a 'Berg' motion showcase and I would just 'ferris-wheel' those shelves with my tongue hanging out.

Of course, there was a limit on how much she would spend. I picked out this Turkish coin, I think the moon and star appealed to me. I promptly put it into a 2x2 and got out my date stamper. You can see the overzealous effort of a kid stamping a 2x2 by the blank end of the stamp being prominently displayed.
"Thanks grandma !"
Absolutely outstanding posts one and all!!!!

My Parkinson’s prevents me from taking pictures. I have an 1878-CC Morgan I bought at a local coin club auction for $4.25 in the early ‘70’s. It is VF-XF.
Oh boy, where do I start. I have a TON of amazing under $10 finds. I'm not going to post my $0.03 1909-S VDB again, but I'll post the most recent addition to my Lincoln Dansco, which set me back $8. This would probably be a $250 coin and off to PCGS... if not for those carbon spots.

Mom's birth year! Nice coin!
OOh. Rare and very nice !!! You impressed me. This counts as $10 face,
$10, before grading.
I got this at my first coin show about 15+ years ago. It was the Holmdel NJ shows. I had just started collecting Morgans but didn't see anything I wanted based on prices I was paying on EBAY. Anyway had to buy something. There was a dealer by the door with Peace $. Guess they weren't getting any love back then. Paid $7 for the 22P, my first one. Silver was around $4 oz. Morgans at the show were $25+ for common UNC. But guess you can say I also spend $2,500 since I then collected the whole set over the years.

$1.89 this week

Another Bargain Bin find. This one had pretty severe PVC (still evident) but I bought it for $2.50 back when silver was cheaper..

Technically, these two were free... My grandfather gave them to me when I was a kid. They escaped my "Cream of Tartar" phase... I was 12 yo... ;-)
