Do you think it would straight grade at our host?

If so, what grade do you think it would get?

(Take note of the gouge by the 9 in the date)

This coin appears to have nice original skin on it and has an overall pleasing look to it in hand (it looks better in person than in the pics).

    I'd be more worried about that staple scratch from the hairline to the rim at the top of the obv than the hit at the date.

    Looks like a very old cleaning that has long since retoned. If the scratches aren't obtrusive "in hand"... I think it has a reasonable shot at VG8, maybe 10...

    Straight grade G6. Probably not worth slabbing unless it is some rare die variety. A perfectly acceptable coin for an album collection.

    I would grade it barely an 8. Is it an O-102a?

    Someone else can verify, but I think it's a O-103.

    And for those saying less than VG8 (which I still think is low, but alas, maybe), I believe the original strike was not full on either the Eagles Head or Liberty's profile.

    Someone else can verify, but I think it's a O-103.

    And for those saying less than VG8 (which I still think is low, but alas, maybe), I believe the original strike was not full on either the Eagles Head or Liberty's profile.

    Guessing 6 or 8 on this one depending on how "meaty" it feels in hand.

    you may also have to be without her for months and months, AND MAYBE EVEN MORE MONTHS waiting on TPG

    I had meant to come around to your attribution and comment. The scallop point star (noticeably star 13) is quite common on Halves, especially early issues, and are still thought to be John Reich's signature for the dies he prepared. They are not used as attribution features.

    The 102 and 102a would have a row of segments below the scroll on the reverse, and this is a very distinct feature ... although in your defense the legend lettering and star placement is very similar to the 103. The 102's also have the noticeably undercut U on the reverse, and 102a's have die cracks which also helped eliminate it from contention.

    Just things to watch for ...
