That 1896 is exceptional! I just love the colors.
I’ve always felt they were undervalued, relative to their business strike counterparts.
Yes, more of the Proofs were saved, as they should have been…. But they are beautiful examples of the type and date.
I have always liked proof coins... In most cases they show the epitome of coin manufacturing. Sure, the business strikes, and circulated coins have history and purpose as well. But proof coins are the art form of coining. Cheers, RickO
