Chances are very good that if CAC had thought the coin was a solid 63 or better, they would have given it a gold sticker. Regardless, a green CAC sticker on a coin in an older PCGS holder in no way indicates that the coin “should be” a higher grade.

I came to this thread too late but I favored more to the 58 side of the scale. I think Mark has it right....keep the holder with the sticker. And, yes, I do believe if CAC thought it a 63 (or higher) it would have gone with the gold sticker. Another words I wouldn't. Great coin regardless.
Interesting, so let me see if I got this straight because when I think of 62/63 I think about banged up chattered looking mint state coins. So in this case, great luster, slight rub, almost contact free. Hence all the 65/66 guesses but the rub or weak strike drags it down to 58 yet the aforementioned brings it back to 62?
It's lived in this OGH for a long time and it is going to stay there as long as I have it. I think it is much better than some of higher numbers.

I think that the images are too poor to render an opinion as to whether or not to crack it. I think I will default to PCGS's and CAC's in hand opinion.
late to the part but these are most likely scans. extremely difficult to accurately gauge surfaces from lower quality scans.
while not many contact marks to hold back from the 65 level +/-, we cannot discern the luster/surface quality, which i bet is low and it probably has slide marks on the high points. just my 2c.

Never understood how a 58 and 63/4 could be so close to each other while skipping the grades between. And so, you can have a clean looking 62, this is good

Never understood how a 58 and 63/4 could be so close to each other while skipping the grades between. And so, you can have a clean looking 62, this is good
As just one general example, many Capped Bust Half Dollars that grade in the MS62 to MS64 range have good luster, more than an adequate strike and very clean surfaces. But they also display “cabinet friction”, faint rub or whatever you’d like to call it. We’re it not for that, they’d be MS65 “Gem” examples.

That is one of the best 62 I have seen for that date and mint mark. Air peen strike for an S minted coin.

There is some post dip yellowing, I assume that is what dropped it but it is still a great coin.
