Newp: 1859 Seat Dollar Proof

PedzolaPedzola Posts: 1,028 ✭✭✭✭✭

I guess I am officially exploring numismatic horizons beyond my gold type set.

My local dealer had this very special coin which I couldnt turn away from.

1859 $1 PR63 CAC

Being a proof coin I had to take a shot at photography. First here is trueview.

And here is my best attempt with axial lighting. I think this shows the surfaces and in-hand look a little better than the TV.

However, change the lighting and you see something else. The coin looks cameo in hand with strong contrast. I'm a little surprised it didnt get the designation.

Here is a quick shot with direct lighting. It is maybe the most realistic first impression in hand. A little tilt in the light and you see the bright colors around the rim but the mirror and cameo is the first thing that jumps out at me. It's fun to twirl this one around.

I guess I will start working on a silver dollar type set. Or an 1859 proof set?

Oh, that's quite a stunner. It appears quite original to me, undipped to my eyes at least.

It's amazing, I really like it. A 1859 set? Go for it!

Now that is a pair that makes breaking away but still keeping golden coins the only way to go. Congrats, what beauties.

There are some tremendous buys in select PR63 coins.
Takes some hunting, but is VERY worthwhile. :)

@Pedzola Really like those last images! Those seem like a very accurate representation if I extrapolate all the other images correctly. Again, both look to be VERY nice coins. Especially love the Dollar.

I really like both pieces, and I prefer your photographs showing the coins as they appear to normal humans.

Congrats, a No Motto Seated dollar in choice proof is a serious numismatic treasure. Enjoy! Looks great. With a mintage of 800 total, you will never see many of them.

An 1859 proof set is a great idea. You pick up a number of early types including the transitional IHC. Proof sets are a fun way to collect by type ; however, it is addictive.

New Silver horizon New kind of FUN!
    I really like your 1859 …. Simply gorgeous 🥰

Forgot to add that I couldn't help but pick up this companion at the same time. These were the only 2.

I didnt have time to shoot this one yet. It really is very colorful, trueview maybe a little hyped but not too far off.

    Beautiful coins.

FYI, your 1859 proof half dime is the V-1 with RPD on all digits, most visibly on the 1.
It is also the one year hub type with "hollow stars" by Paquet that was only used in Philadelphia.
