Finally completed my buffalo nickel registry date set!

erwindocerwindoc Posts: 5,286 ✭✭✭✭✭

I was able to pick up the final piece of my buffalo nickel registry date set. The last two dates, the 18P and 20P were surprisingly tough. Here is the latest edition....

You can check out the rest of my registry set here...

Great set - a lot of better dates in there too! How about a post with your 5 favorites?

    Really nice set congrats!
That '38 is an eyeball melter, and I really strangely like that '27 a lot too.

Great sets! The 35-S in the Cherry Tree is amazing. So is the 1917-S SLQ. Thanks for sharing.

Nice set, the 1920 is a sweet coin!

I thought NGC was going to change and not allow PCGS coins in their registry, but perhaps I was misinformed.

Very impressive man… how long it take you to build this set?

Took about several years, at least 10 but I have not worked on it exclusively during that time frame. I have lots of collecting interests and can be quite picky with purchases anymore. It has been easier to find the branch mint coins from certain years rather than a nice '18 and '20!

Thanks! They did disallow PCGS coins at one time and then they changed their mind. I almost gave up on registry stuff at that time as I have coins across both grading companies as you can now tell.

Jason’s thread has me thinking about my own Buffalo herd. 🦬🦬🦬🦬🦬

I bought these low-grade nickels over 50 years ago, when I was a kid. I purchased them from Joe Hollingsworth, a mail order dealer out of Portland OR. I only remember this because I bought lots of coins from Joe early on in my collecting career. I’m fairly sure I’ve owned these Buffs longer than any other coins in my collection. Every other early coin I've owned has likely moved on, except for these. Maybe that's a sign? Might be time to set them free, and start plugging holes in a Whitman folder.

    Happy Fathers Day -
    Dave
