I don't think I've ever seen pinks that neon bright before on a coin, or now that I think of it, ever. It's practically a spotlight.

I know that's a truview pic but it looks a little juiced to me. Don't get me wrong. I like it, just looks juiced.

TruView really portrays it as electric semi-PL tones. 67CAC …. All things considered that price isn’t that nuts.

I saw it in hand today; it's a nice coin and was already over $5k before live bidding. Then two people really wanted it and kept bidding.

After taking a pause a few years ago, Morgan toners have taken off again, especially if nice. I've had no trouble selling some nice, but admittedly middle of the road toners north of $1K, the same ones one that were available during the pause for $200 to $400. Might be time to unload them!

It’s kind of cool, but not $19k cool, for an otherwise common date Morgan.

My thought as well, to each their own.

search their archives going back many years and you will find a plethora of MANY 5 figure monster elite toners. wouldn't be surprised to see some 6 figure as well. :)

the coin in the op is a beaut but there are many in there that would shame this one, believe it or not. ;)

Oh, I don't doubt that. I've never personally been very attracted to this type of toning so I was commenting on how vibrant it seemed compared to others I've seen pictures of. I have seen some of the "monster" toners that many absolutely adore and I would much rather have a nicely golden peripheral toned PL coin with clean surfaces instead. Personal preference!

On the flip side of this, how did this coin manage a 67 with those two marks on the cheek? The lower one could be a tone break, but the upper one is pretty deep. Toning bonus? Although that would be quite a jump IMO.

I don't care what and/or if PCGS juices up their Trueviews.
    That coin is fantastic!

On this type of 'toner' I have found that in general if I strip away the toning and grade the coin as if there were no toning that I grade it lower than the TPG. This is not always but a general observation for me. Others might not find the same thing. So, the answer in my opinion is Yes toning bonus but it goes to the eye appeal part of the grade. It gets a bump. And of course the eye appeal part of a grade will be debated.

On this Morgan it would fit into my general observation and not grade 67 if I strip away the toning. The lower one (contact mark) that you note appears to be a scrap type contact mark (scuff). But these can appear worse than they are due to the color difference. That is, if the coin were silver color the scuff would blend in better. The toning makes it stand out. If you blow up the pic and look in the fields at 3 o/c and in front of nose and chin, there is some typical light contact but one doesn't see them easily since they are the same tone color and blend in.

For me, that hatchet mark on the cheek is worth at least a 1 point deduction from 67. It's dead center in the exact primary focal point.

The more I see of the premiums being paid for tarnish, the more it seems I should have long been in the business of acquiring/making/selling tarnish. Cheers, RickO

Never too late to get into making it. I welcome you to take a shot and report back your results in an objective and unbiased way. ;)

@DelawareDoons.... If I make it, NO WAY would it be objective or unbiased :D:D;) They would be the greatest, most colorful, no debate MOOSE's ever presented - commanding record prices... :D;) Cheers, RickO

The hack mark on the cheek is really distracting. Wish the grader’s who let this pass we’re working when several of my coins got “ah” deductions. 😉🙀🦫

We all knew great toning got a bump in grade, should it is the question. Even the MS66 grade definition had no hits in the focal areas. Considering though the smaller picture above is around 800% magnified and the huge 1 above is at least 3000%, so not what the grader was using to view. At that magnification, a spec of sand looks like a rock. Reverse does look very clean and not subtracting any points.

Great coin, way beyond my budget, but one I would love to own.

Thought I would put the two obverse pic's together. The color and contact marks look different in each. Yes again the photo can be questionable.
