1903 S dime semi-key in the LCS junk Barber box...

sumduncesumdunce Posts: 1,247 ✭✭✭✭

Decided to start a circ. Barber collection and was looking through the LCS junk Barbers to start. Planning on upgrading coins as I go but wanted to fill as much of the spots as inexpensively as I could to start.

I was surprised to find this for $2.80 (28 X face value):

It's not a high grade but it definitely fills the spot in the collection.

I am thinking AG3, any Barber experts want to give their grade opinion?

Okay find for as little paid for it. Looks like corroded surfaces from strong chemical agent so not AG3.

Looks fantastic for what it is. A hole filler. And clear date and MM. 😉🙀🦫. I’m just about finished with my twentieth century type set and wish some of my examples looked that good. Then again there’s always upgrading. 👍🏼

Nice - I once got a 1913-S Barber that way.

It's lived a hard life but still makes a good album coin for a budget set. To say that the price was right is an understatement!

Well isn’t that a fun find. I once got an 1894-O and 1895-S both for $2 in my LCS junk Barber dimes. Still have both.

Now did the dealer genuinely miss them, or did he “seed” them in there to see if anyone was paying attention? Hmm...

i'd pick em like that all day long.

i LOVE selling barber dimes, especially lower grade ones. SOOOOOO many collectors, if priced fairly.

    A great coin.
    Nice hole filler.
Where there was one, maybe there is two.
Well worth your time to search those junk boxes.

    Nice pickup! :)

I also carefully handpick through “junk” silver at my LCS. I am very selective at the current high prices. From time to time, I will snag a semi key coin.

Congrats! I do the same at my local shop. Recently picked out a 38D Walker in VF for whatever junk 90 percent was a few weeks ago.
