You got me! I thought that I would be seeing a U.S. Mint 1794 half dollar. Actually, at the time it was issued, it was a substitute for the U.S. coin.

Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

The 4 Reales pieces are a bit harder to locate than some of the other denominations. 1794 is also a better date, with very few certified examples (at least for Mexico). I don't know about the rarity of Guatemala pieces (like yours) offhand. Is yours a 1794/3 overdate?

NOT wrong forum. GREAT coin and a history jab to those who are unfamiliar with the coins we actually used. <3

    Great coin!

Quick question. Do you get more responses on this forum or the World Coins forum? Just curious.

World Coins Forum doesn't get the traffic it deserves.

Very nice coin. I got hooked into this line of collecting a few years ago and have had great fun with it. Got carried away I'm afraid, adding different mints, coin types found in archeological digs, by detectorists, etc.. Raw is the rule in this arena, I've found, and circulated coins have more appeal IMO. Great learning experience, learning about the coins that were widely in use here until 1857, and about the history of money in general.

I only posted it here. I figure I'd get a rise out of more people here, given the wording of the subject.

    Beautiful coins!

I’m guessing many people prefer to post world coins in the US coin forums, probably because they are used to posting and reading here.

I used to post on World Coins more, but recently have less time to spend there, even though I still spend quite a bit of time on the US side.

Given how many world coins are posted in the US forum, I wonder if they should be combined?

I get all of my rare Potosi Mint doubled dies from the Alpaca pens. 😏

Q: When does a collector become a numismatist?

A: The year they spend more on their library than their coin collection.

A numismatist is judged more on the content of their library than the content of their cabinet.

At first I thought I was losing my mind, then determined the Mods must have moved it over here.

How did you do your submission? standard or expedited.

Standard. They received the package today. We'll see how long it takes. It's accompanied by the 1821 1 Real to make my set completion "official", as well as a couple prime number coins.

I could have sworn it had been in the U.S. coin forum originally. No matter.

Well that should give us an idea if world turn around times are improving.
Am I correct in thinking that you will be only the second person to complete the set.
I think this set is under appreciated. I hope to one day finish it myself and you've inspired me with your progress updates. What I 've found so far is that some of the selections in the set are harder to find than what I first would have thought.

Third. Cardinal has a retired set, and I'm pretty sure Boosibri finished one and no longer has it active.
