    How many Large Cent Caps are there? It's great to have your archives to keep track of these.

    Is there a good census of these? Do error coin collectors do censuses? If not, it seems like a worthwhile endeavor.

    I have handled a total of 4 different Large Cent obverse die caps. The 3 different ones that I have posted links and pictures in this thread, and a fourth which is also dated 1856. It is not quite as deep as these three are, but is obviously an obverse die cap and I think it is in a NGC AU 58 holder. I will try to dig out images.

    I actually know how many capped die strikes it took to create it.

    Not a Lindy Special Order, instead was lucky owner's Special Order

    As to strikes, I'd be cool with a few days of guesses.

    Here's a clue:

    I actually have all but 15 to 20 of them.

    Here's one that IIRC a forum member found while helping a museum do inventory. It was listed as a broadstrike, but it might be a die cap.
