Is this an error from the mint or was it post mint?

The TPG says it was done at the mint, a piece of wire got between the die and coin blank. Your thoughts?

Lol….that would help wouldn’t it! Duh!

I'm not seeing any signs of displaced metal so it looks like it's a strike through. Any signs of distortion on the obverse immediately across from the mark to indicate it was pressed or hit post minting?

It appears to be a strike through... more magnification would be nice, but not really in doubt. Cheers, RickO

Looks like a pretty typical struck through scrap.

Whatever it is, it is distracting and a negative. It is a coin I would not buy.

Yup. Struck through wire or string. Definitely a mint error. Not sure if it adds any value or how much if it does. A unique error such as this would have to sold at auction to determine its value.

If it was a strike through, wouldn't the details on the wing and leaves end up on the wire and not the coin.

Struck thru for sure, I think it's cool. It is unique :)

Not completely. A thin, malleable object will end up molding to the die and you will end up with a less detailed image being transferred. [Think brockage]

I could be a piece of string rather than a piece of wire.

No matter what the material was, it is a strike thru.
