I think I would call it a straight clip, probably from the end of a strip that was cut a bit roughly.

@ricko Yes, picked it up yesterday, full red obverse and almost full red reverse.... I don't see clips on an older nice condition wheat cents very often, but I know they are out there. I have no idea about rarity of this particular date. I also like full red Lincolns from WW2 era!
I’d describe your coin as scarce but not rare. Philly mint 1944 clips are legion, it’s probably the most common date along with 1972. Branch mints are tougher but available, Denver is maybe twice as scarce as San Fran.
Your coin is in exceptional condition, and shows a slight taper along with the straight edge, indicating it was punched from the edge of the copper sheet. Congrats on the pick up!
