The grade is: MS66

7422 1976-S $1 Silver MS66 USA

Forgot to mention: Business Strike Silver.

I do not yet have it back in hand. Decent amount of clashed, thought I would share.

Looks like the silver version. I'd go 68.

Only because MS68 is such a tough grade for PCGS to give these silver 1976-S Ike dollar and due to the set of marks between the T and the Y I'd go MS67.

Very nice! Very light clash but visible on the reverse! :+1:

Is there a variety number for this?

Not to my knowledge. ANACS would put an "E Clash" label on it due to the "E" left of the Moon on the reverse.

and some on the obv but in a less noticeable place.

    i didn't look up for a variety #, so can't help there.

this is a coin type, despite all the polished R coins, i have rarely seen clashed of any consequence!

I will update the post with the grade in the morning. Some interesting answers so far.

Our host truly struggles with business strike silver Ikes. I'd call that an easy 68, but you never know how they'll see it. The attached is a 68/CAC 73-S currently on GC. Not even remotely defensible, IMO.

I don’t know about struggling but I would certainly assume they have reverted to the grading of old. Preservation not only pertains to a coins grade but also a coin grading co.
Currently CoinFacts has numerous 68‘s that look worse than this one. Hence the reasons for my 67+.
But then again, I am not a professional grader and when push comes to shove 68 looks more like 70.

    Bump for reveal.

I thought this would get MS67 with a maybe of 68. I like the looks of the coin, so I am still quite happy to have it in my collection.

So it’s the clash that brings down the grade right?

I too believe it is better than a MS66.

I am thinking the carbon spot (or whatever it is) plus the many small ticks (nose, chin, neck, cheek, between "TY", and "ONE DOLLAR") brought it down to MS66. The clashed details might have also dropped the grade too, but that is just pure WAG on my part. Don't get me wrong, I am not unhappy with the grade. I just had hoped for one point better.

Traveling to visit in-laws about two decades ago, I was in Cleveland, OH. Wife was the one who spotted the coin shop. When she said we weren't expected for a couple of hours, I turned around. Happy I did. If I recall it was in the red box of 2X2 Ikes and listed for about 2x silver value. Dealer said it was damaged, I said it was a clashed die and "I like to collect those kind of things."

I got this and another two 1971S business strike silver Eisenhower dollars back today. This clashed dies coin. Another with a struck through retained on the reverse. Finally a rim burr reverse coin. None of them got noted as mint errors. I wanted them authenticated/graded and they are going back into my collection. I know, I could have saved money and not sent them in on an error sub., but I thought it would be nice to have the holder note the anomaly. I am now wondering if I should send in my 1857 FE cent for the 401b attribution, or just leave it in its current holder.

A little disappointed, but I still like placing them back into my collection.

Interesting suggestion @LanceNewmanOCC but I don't believe VAMs extend past the Peace dollars.
