Just like some coin collectors also collect bullion, I'm wondering if any art collectors also collect buckets of paint? If not, is there some potential there?

    This will be analogous if the collector of art collects buckets of paint as the collector of coins collects buckets of zinc, copper, silver, and gold.

    Paint collectors prefer latex.. it is better for inflation, and solvency.

    Should the buckets of paint used by classic artists, such as Rembrandt, become certifiably available, I would feel a yes would be the answer.

    Seems somewhat unlikely, although possible as a niche. I could probably believe that easels and paintbrushes of famous artists might be valued collectibles. Just speculating out loud here...

    I remember when Kennedy ran for President. He was the first Roman Catholic to run for this office and people were afraid that he would take orders from the Pope. To protest his candidacy, some people took red fingernail polish or red paint and painted the top of Washington's head on quarters to make it look like he was wearing a Cardinals cap and then put these quarters into circulation.

    So the really earliest paints were actually amounts of crushed up powder from minerals, shellfish, plants that were mixed up with egg whites, milk, water. You know archeologists find that sort of stuff. Peace Roy

    Apparently a top quality oil paint can cost $1,000 per liter. In that case, a million dollars would be 1,000 L which is exactly one cubic meter. You could store it in your dog house. 🙂

    And here I was about to throw out my rare gallon can of 2004 Home Depot custom green satin latex. It has problems- the can is rusty, some of the paint is missing and the rest has solidified, but the label is in good condition and the problems might not bother someone on a budget who needs an example for their collection.

    Every (post-Vermeer?) can of paint is mixed using a 4-digit mixture code. They use the same code at Loew's too. "Custom green" sounds special but without the that code you've got a generic.

    Is shipping included?

    It will look wonderful on the shelf above @MrEureka's fireplace, and likely prove a satisfactory substitute (the latex quality helps with absorbing shock) for target practice with his crossbow when the groundhogs aren't visible through the sliding door to his backyard.

    Also, there's a can of paint in my garage that was here when I moved in. It looks older than this one so I'm sure it's valuable.

    It's really only the lid that's valuable. That should fit in a flat box. And maybe you can get a tpg to put it in a really big slab for you.

    Fortunately I don't see any paint on the lid. That would be considered artificial toning.

    You're using the OLD paint code system. Google the new one and you'll find a YouTube video that explains everything.

    The one that's based on the Fibonacci series? That one tints towards the red end of the spectrum worse than a trueview. :s

    Did you know that a Marble Company (I believe in West Virginia) still makes millions of marbles a year. Not for playing with ,but sold to Paint Co.'s Used in the spray cans of paint (you know when you have to shake it first)

    I don't collect paint cans unless you count the ones that have to dried out before disposing of the ugly cans. However, i do like to watch paint dry. LOL :D
