Buckets of paint?
Just like some coin collectors also collect bullion, I'm wondering if any art collectors also collect buckets of paint? If not, is there some potential there?

This will be analogous if the collector of art collects buckets of paint as the collector of coins collects buckets of zinc, copper, silver, and gold.

I only collect certified Bob Ross tubes of Titanium White.
Paint collectors prefer latex.. it is better for inflation, and solvency.
Is there a premium for old cans?

Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
Only old spray paint cans... You know, "Rattlers".
Anyone else get the feeling we may be getting the “ brush off” 🙀
If so ….. I’ll take a pinstripe brush. Touch up those milk spots and such😳

First thing that popped into my mind after reading the thread title...to make this coin related.
4 Good Reasons Why Some Quarters Are Painted Red
They’re old test coins. In the past, repairmen used them to check out the coin-operated pay phones, vending machines, and laundromat washers they were fixing in order to avoid being accused of stealing. That makes sense to me.
They were “house” money. Red quarters are sometimes used by business owners as perks; they give them to their preferred customers for free plays on the coin-operated pool tables, pinball machines and video games. Red quarters were also used by waitresses to “prime” otherwise quiet jukeboxes in order to encourage other patrons to add their own quarters and keep the music coming.
Somebody painted it as a sign of defiance. According to Answers.com, the red coins were part of a campaign in the 1970s to protest New Jersey officials’ decision to increase the toll on the Garden State Parkway from 15 cents to a quarter.
They were once used for free laundry. For some apartment managers, free laundry is apparently a fringe benefit. Landlords will often give their building supervisors red quarters for use in the apartment laundromats. The managers would get their quarters back when the owner or laundromat vendor removed the cash from the machines.
So there you have it. The next time you come across an old quarter that has the remnants of red paint or a little bit of scarlet nail polish on it, you won’t have to wonder anymore.

How else are you going to make Detroit Agate?
Should the buckets of paint used by classic artists, such as Rembrandt, become certifiably available, I would feel a yes would be the answer.

Seems somewhat unlikely, although possible as a niche. I could probably believe that easels and paintbrushes of famous artists might be valued collectibles. Just speculating out loud here...
Best 22 targets ever. A friend and I painted an entire side of a hill at my uncle's ranch with old spray cans and a couple 22's.
Searching "paint collection" on Google, turns up a lot of results!
Well I’m not certain how much older paint I want to mess with. They used a lot of lead. 🤨

But if buckets of paint are near the end of your bucket list, no worries... 😉
I remember when Kennedy ran for President. He was the first Roman Catholic to run for this office and people were afraid that he would take orders from the Pope. To protest his candidacy, some people took red fingernail polish or red paint and painted the top of Washington's head on quarters to make it look like he was wearing a Cardinals cap and then put these quarters into circulation.

I only collect the tubes of sap green so I can make happy trees!
So the really earliest paints were actually amounts of crushed up powder from minerals, shellfish, plants that were mixed up with egg whites, milk, water. You know archeologists find that sort of stuff. Peace Roy

What's the shelf life of a bucket of paint compared to a gold coin or bar?
How much storage room does a million dollars worth of paint take up compared to the same value of gold coins or bars?

Depends... Are talking paint cans attributable to Jackson Pollock or Thomas Hart Benton?

Apparently a top quality oil paint can cost $1,000 per liter. In that case, a million dollars would be 1,000 L which is exactly one cubic meter. You could store it in your dog house. 🙂
And here I was about to throw out my rare gallon can of 2004 Home Depot custom green satin latex. It has problems- the can is rusty, some of the paint is missing and the rest has solidified, but the label is in good condition and the problems might not bother someone on a budget who needs an example for their collection.
Every (post-Vermeer?) can of paint is mixed using a 4-digit mixture code. They use the same code at Loew's too. "Custom green" sounds special but without the that code you've got a generic.
Is shipping included?
It will look wonderful on the shelf above @MrEureka's fireplace, and likely prove a satisfactory substitute (the latex quality helps with absorbing shock) for target practice with his crossbow when the groundhogs aren't visible through the sliding door to his backyard.
@ColonelJessup
Look, I know what I have. All you so-called 'experts' do on these boards do is tell everyone else their stuff is crap while hyping your own stuff which I've never seen before and know nothing about but I know is crap.
You want to see the label? Here you go:
So, if you're still interested, shipping isn't included because USPS doesn't have a flat-rate box this will fit in.
Also, there's a can of paint in my garage that was here when I moved in. It looks older than this one so I'm sure it's valuable.
...
It's really only the lid that's valuable. That should fit in a flat box. And maybe you can get a tpg to put it in a really big slab for you.
Fortunately I don't see any paint on the lid. That would be considered artificial toning.
Looks like 4-1-7-3 - sometimes called "Too-White Tepid Shower Room #3".
The centering of the label is gem.....
Does USPS have a semi-gloss rate?

You're using the OLD paint code system. Google the new one and you'll find a YouTube video that explains everything.
The one that's based on the Fibonacci series? That one tints towards the red end of the spectrum worse than a trueview.
I couldn't buy a football team with my profits like Wayne Huizenga. Exactly how much are you paying me to take this off your hands?
Oh no! A year or two ago I got rid of most of my paint cans. Is this going to end up like when mothers of baby boomers threw out their card collections?
Lol. Obviously you know nothing about rare paint.
I crushed lapis lazuli for Titian, kid!
Slopping scotch and vodka into Sears Roebuck colors for Jackson Pollock is not rare paint! You want paint? You should see what livers of sulfur does to 150-year-old 90%!!!

Props to your business model and motto.... Buying junque, selling antiques..... Same as it ever was, Same as it ever was.....
But the more you sniff it, the more you think it's worth...
Did you know that a Marble Company (I believe in West Virginia) still makes millions of marbles a year. Not for playing with ,but sold to Paint Co.'s Used in the spray cans of paint (you know when you have to shake it first)
Well now.... There is so much here, but I do not know enough about paint to separate the wheat from the chaff.... Though I expect most of it is chaff....
Cheers, RickO
On that note.......Just like some coin collectors also collect plastic holders, I'm wondering if any art collectors also collect picture frames?
Your hobby is supposed to be your therapy, not the reason you need it.
Oh Great! Now we will have 50 new members posting a gazillion fuzzy pictures of the Paint Cans they found in a Walmart Parking Lot and wanting to know how much they are worth!
Unnnnh! What's melt on paintcans?
That’s why they taste sooooo good! 🤮

I don't collect paint cans unless you count the ones that have to dried out before disposing of the ugly cans. However, i do like to watch paint dry. LOL
