Tho I'm no fan of Barber coinage I must say-that's an impressive set! They are so well matched.

Darrell - I sure as hell do. This complete set cost me about $12,500. The 1893-S was $500, I bought it raw at a Utah coin show, ended up grading PCGS AU55. Some of the coins were literally perfect in their toning...at least how I like them. Randy Holder sold me a gorgeously toned XF45 1904-S, but that was sold clear back in late 1999 when I had a young family and $750 was a lot of money to me.

I sent them all to PCGS. All graded except the 1901 which had rim filing I never noticed. I sold the whole set to Glenn Holsonbake in 2011. Yeah, I really wish I hadn't sold them.

1912-S was the first coin of the set. The 1895-S was the last coin to complete the set.

Yeah, I would wager if you could find them all now they would cost you at least double, if not triple that now. Wish I had known you when you sold them!

It took about 8 years to complete. I got lucky when an Ebay seller started to put what would be a whole mid grade set on Ebay. I emailed him, and convinced him to give me first shot so that he could avoid some of the auction hassle. He complied and about 25 coins came from that set.

My best deal? The 1900-S that had AU details before PCGS spanked it down to an XF45 for the darker toning. Picked that up for about $10.00 on Ebay. Well, the 1904-S PCGS VF35 for $450.00 on a BIN sure was a killer deal too.

A couple of my Barber collector friends were rather angry at me. I felt bad, but I didn't want to get piecemealed and sell the best ones to them only to have all the common dates left over. I thought that selling the whole set would get more than the sum of the coins. It probably didn't, but it was an easier transaction for sure.

It was a different time then as you know. Ebay was all auction and some BINs. Often the BIN prices were stellar deals. All those posters here that used to bitch about snipers...well that was me. LOL.

Mike Hayes recommended Glenn Holsonbake and I really trusted Mike so that is the direction I went. I just don't find coins like this for sale any where these days or I might try the set again. I am kind of over the VF grade range and wouldn't mind a matched AU set of 50, 53 & 55 coins. That would take the rest of my life if I tried.

They would all have to look like this though:

P.S. I have been eyeballing that 1900-O you have on Ebay. That is a really beautiful coin. Easily the nicest I have ever seen in AU.

I think the set is doable if you have the patience and can get over the price hurdle the nice ones are bringing. Now that I'm playing with a set of quarters I know why I never had to many in stock(I'm paying up on a few to see what happens and have some available). Throw the price guides away on the nice quarters also!

Yeah, the picture sucks I took it to document the slabs and serial numbers.
They all look like this one:

And this is an outdated picture, half of these coins have been upgraded.
Maybe over Christmas break I’ll dig out the type set and take new pictures…

An old scan I posted years ago. All holes are now filled on these two pages except for the 1855-P and the "66 mystery hole (no motto?)". The 1855 shown is an early die state 55/54 that I hadn't attributed yet. There are still about 10 holes yet to be filled in the set. All coins shown were raw off of eBay 10-15 years ago, difficult to do today as the quality of raw eBay SLH has dropped considerably since then, IMO.
