REVEALED Merry Christmas! - 1883 GSA CC Morgan, GTG

I don't like these photos, but I love this coin.

I missed out on the 80s GSA auctions (remember the rejection letter), huge 'bucket list' purchase for me...common date with the best eye appeal I could find. I cared very little about future numismatic value, but just wanted a fine example regardless of rarity.

Comstock Lode!!!

GTG. My apologies for the reflections.

There’s something about it ,PL fields, it has some issues with the cheek , but it really is appealing to me. GSA bonus. ( really want one too but I will wait). I would have jumped on this one. Morgan’s are really magical, the more I study. I’m going with ms. 62 I don’t see any wear. 😉

    It's so milk spotted I can't stand it ;)

I literally remember sending my check in for the GSA deal in the early 80's, and getting an apology letter from President Reagan (still have) about how the GSA was out of stock. I was so poor that this was a gut punch lol.

Never thought I'd own a certified example. Just love the Comstock lode history, and the holy grail CC Morgan. Case closed for me.

Much better pics from the seller...and don't tell me that cheek is bad ;)

My crummy phone shots DO show one aspect not in the original seller photos...and reflected in the grade.

    Hmm...

Based off your photos I would say 64PL
Based off the seller's photos I'd say 65, no PL.

    I'll go with 65.

@davidk...Nice CC Morgan.... looks like a 65... I have several. I would not call that coin milk spotted...Could be the pictures, but not like any milk spotted coins I have seen. Plus, I do not think coins of that era ever had milk spots.

That VAM 5D is very interesting as I've never researched VAM varieties. Thank you.

Got 12 of them in the GSA Auctions. Most 83 CCs and 84 CCs. That one's an MS 62 or maybe MS 63 on a good day. Had one come back in 4, 2 of them in 5, one of them in 6. All looked cleaner than this coin.

Not dumping on the coin, just commenting re the grading. Reverse on these coins always looks better than the obverse. Disclosure: it is possible grading standards have changed since I had mine graded.

Nice on the grade and I do like the coin however the marks on face absolutely rule out a 65 and have seen some nicer 64s. Even though it is only a photo, the PL character is a bit less than might be hoped.
