If you’re set to make it to your last breath the only reasons I see to get involved is greed or something to do like someone said. I don’t need to be greedy and I’ve also retired my thinking. I don’t want to learn about crypto, Facebook, Twitter, instagram or any new 💩. I watch new movies but really enjoy black and white.

After all this my attitude toward crypto has not changed. Have none, want none, accept none. It strikes me as nothing more than a long-running, unregulated financial scheme that is going to suffer the same fate as tulips in the 1600's or Ponzi victims in more recent years. When all a certain multi-billionaire has to do to affect the market is send out a twitter message to his "followers" you know you are in trouble.

The same Twitter phenomenon has moved stocks. Your argument is not a crypto problem but a cult of personality problem.

The Reddit group moved silver futures earlier in the year with the same social media phenomenon.

Many stocks rely heavily on "sizzle" and not fundamentals. Quick money is the lure but eventually the fundamentals always catch up to them.

    All glory is fleeting.

The origins are a Ponzi scheme. Boiler rooms of hundreds of paid pumpers pumping bitcoin for years trying to break into the news cycle. It worked. Having said that. I have a small position in the picks and shovels company that makes money buying or selling crypto. When everyone is panic selling . I make money.

Since I don’t get this crypto stuff I though I would ask for advice on a coin forum. Good investment ? I think I could swing it if I max out my credit cards ( I have no interest on one for 15 months sounds good right ) sell my house, 2 kidneys and a liver. Should I make this a poll ?

I see alot of comments that people dont want to learn about crypto. Certainly that is anyone's prerogative. But I suggest an interesting read is the The Almanack of Naval Ravikant. In it he says " the most important skill for getting rich is becoming a perpetual learner." Something to think about.

I'm not sure why people aren't just curious to learn more. They are clearly curious enough to click on this threads. However they then feel they need to declare their wilful ignorance as a badge of honor. You don't have to put money into it to want to know a little bit about it.

ADA has been flat for too long now. IMO it will make a move soon, or sooner or later.

ADA is my biggest position and I want more. Because it is speculation, I would love to see a BIG move either way. Big up, I sell, Big down, I buy.

That is way speculating (gambling) is so much fun :)

Quoting oneself is pure hubris but my "old fart" metric for when to take a profit stands firm as evidenced by the market. I make profit regardless of whether the market goes up or down, it is RARE (once every 3 months) that I sell or trade.

No more true of crypto than credit card payments.

How about checks? That's just two strings of alpha numeric code with a signature.

That's not bad. Is that what it was before the upgrade also? Is it cheaper than BTC mining? When I looked into BTC mining a couple years ago, it was prohibitively expensive.

The most recent update that affected miner compensation? It dropped a bit once they started burning the gas rather than giving it to miners. I'm still in the green by a nice chunk and have a buncha high end GPU's to sell once ETH switches to PoS if I decide to not pursue another PoW coin... I'd guess I could walk away from my little trip into the world of Crypto Mining today with a ~$25k profit, maybe more.

I got into this because I figured if I'm stuck with electric heat, I might as well make some money to offset heating costs and use GPU's to help heat my house, and I've gone and made enough to just upgrade to gas. It's a trip.

    Was making an effort tonight...

S&P will start indexing the 550 known "coins"

Am I right that Crypto is actually mined by a computer solving mathematical problems? That it consumes so much energy it is an environmental issue?

A bit hokey, but it has become a store of value. So was tulips and Beanie Bears.

But tell that to the investors when the guy died on the Nile River without leaving his passwords. Or the guy that tossed his harddrive into the trash?

My only question is where were you in 2016 when it was $800?

    $57,500?

    Today...Pass

I would honestly rather invest in honeybees...lol

There was another add on Sirius touting crypto IRA and 80+ coins.

My mining footprint? No idea. Way less than if I was farming Bitcoin. ASIC miners are way more energy intensive than my GPU's. Quick googling shows that ETH as a whole consumes about 1/10th the electricity as BTC. At any rate, PoS is coming to ETH so that all ends by next summer in all probability. BTC, on the other hand, is just going to keep going.

terms like farming, mining, wallet, etc. when referring to Bitcoin have always amused me. here, something new and possibly revolutionary comes along and the practitioners can't even come up with unique terms to describe it's functions and technical parts.
