1911 $10 eagle gold coin 【What kind of grade will this coin received?】
A superb coin, soft original cartwheel mint luster, no contact mark in the field expect a mirror scratch on the obverse. Sharply stuck with almost matte like surface.
Originally in a NGC holder that graded 62, I am planning to resubmit it. What kind of grade will this coin received?

Grading from photos is tricky, but that coin looks quite clean to me. Certainly looks better than 62 based on what I am seeing.

If it's genuine, probably MS-64 or better. These coins can have a grainy look, and this one has it. That's why I can't say, for sure, if it's real. It's the type of coin that an expert needs to see in person.
This one found its way into an NGC MS-66 holder.

The original NGC certification lookup usually has some additional photos. The reverse has some hits by the Ten Dollars, hard to see clearly in these photos. Hairlines are a risk and very hard to see and can hurt the grade. Did you know there was an option to send this in for crossover and state a minimum grade like 63 and if it would not cross, they leave it in the existing holder? The value from 62-63 is minimal, but if a 64 it would be a great result. Good luck.

I brought it in a NGC ms62 holder (4712657-001), I thought it look way too undegraded. The only problem I see on this coin is a mirror scratch on the front.

Normally the Indian head reverse field (especially around the eagle) is full of ugly contact marks and no luster. This coin there are no contact marks, scratches, hairlines. It is just pure soft cartwheel luster

The images aren’t good ones upon which to provide meaningful grade assessments. I’ll give the strong benefit of the doubt to NGC, who viewed the coin in hand.

Well struck and I agree with you that it could be under graded. Good find. Edited to add that even straight crossovers NGC to PCGS have been averaging only 41% success, the odds receiving a grade higher than 63 would be very low.

It's nice looking. I'll admit that if I had this and was going from NGC to PCGS I'd also crack it out first. No need to add the extra crossover charge on this.

Nice looking coin. Depending on what those spots are on the obverse, I'd grade it a 64. Seriously. The only significant dings I can see are on two on the reverse in the area where a mint mark would normally go, plus what appears to be a few very minor scuffs on Liberty's cheek (not unusual). Here is the PCGS graded 1911 that I have in my registry set:

As others have mentioned, the price jump between 62 and 63 on a 1911 (a common date) is not very significant. According to the PCGS price guide a 62 is $1,600 while a $10 Indian graded MS63 is priced at $1,800. It is not until you get to MS64 that you see a substantial percentage jump in price. In MS64 the PCGS price guide says $2,750.

$870 now is the melt gold value for this coin, I basically paid nothing for its grade. I really don't know why other eBay bidders did not bid this coin. Normally eBay auction price will not be any cheaper than sale price. On eBay right now MS 62 price is around $1300 - $1600

US gold coin prices have jumped significantly since Spring 2020. It will be interesting to see if those prices will last or if prices will level back down.

And if those obv spots (issues which I think were silently net graded) are not liked by PCGS and given a details grade you will be lucky to break even. As an example on 3/19/2019 gold spot was $1,305, today $1,817.

I hope that you get the grade you want, but I also think you took a big risk cracking this coin out. I would have sent it to CAC before I would have ever cracked it as a gold bean would have been worth much more than a one point upgrade, again I hope it works out for you.

Thanks for the advice. I have no intention of selling the coin, therefore to me it does not really matter whether it is graded detail grade or 64. A person truly appreciating a coin is way better than just a number on the holder.

The Baltimore Whitman Expo in Spring 2019 was about the last show I went to... $10 Indians, raw for $625, $20 Saint MS 63 for $1275... for whatever reason, I passed on both. Ain't hindsight great?

It goes in two ways. As I already cracked the holder, if you guys think it is worth it I will submit it and possibly sale it. If you guys thinks it is not, I will continue to leave it raw.

it is not unheard of to crack a coin to enjoy it outside the holder.
The thing to have done would have been to not crack it if you had any idea at all that it would be financially better to have it holdered.
Now you have to consider cost of resubmission to PCGS and CAC, or just keeping it as is.

Slabbed or raw, I say enjoy your coin the way you prefer. I have both PCGS and NGC registry sets, but I have also cracked some coins for my Dansco albums, including pre-33 gold for my 7070.
Now speaking to some on this thread:
Appears OP is a new member, so before giving him grief for cracking the coin, or making innocent comments about why he did it, ask yourself:
"Would I treat a visitor to my local coin club this way?"

the last $10 indian i bought was September 18th, 2019, it was a 1910-D pcgs MS-63 for 845.00. it is a sharp no problem coin too

It appears to be a nice gold coin.... Although pictures can be tricky - and yours, for the most part, are a tad hazy, I would say it could be an MS63. Good luck if you submit it... Let us know. Cheers, RickO

I really like the look of the coin, but I'm suspicious that there is some reason it received the grade it did. It's devilishly easy to hide a borderline-bad patch of hairlines in photos. Not saying that's the case, but it's something I'd be looking for closely. Graders won't miss it.
