09SVDB Looks Phony!

MarkW63MarkW63 Posts: 1,532 ✭✭✭✭

The period following the "D" in the designers initials is to close to the D.
The "N" in uNited appears to have deep cut valley's which isn't found on the Genuine 09SVDB, that N should have shallow valley's.

My guess is an added mint mark.

Just get a slabbed one. Not a coin to buy raw unless you really know what you are doing.

"Smudge" thanks for commenting in my thread, and I hope that you'll continue to do so for sure!! but let me explain the reason for these threads that I do with these 09SVDB's.
Way back over a year ago I got nailed for a phony one of these, I was sent here to this forum for some help and conformation, bla. bla.....
Well after that I spent a great deal of time researching 09SVDB phony's before I finely got up the nerve to buy another one, but I did so after that I had spent so much time searching ebay actually looking for fake or altered ones that even after I got mine I just kept doing it.
So, now its become a group effort with the members here on the forum to spot this things,
have open discussions about them, with the different members point out the things right and WRONG about the coin.
Then the goal is to let that start the ball rolling towards getting the phony's (their listings) taken down.
That said, when I post these they're not of interest to me for purchasing them, it to try and get as many of the fakes off the market as possible!
This is a PHONY! so, now I'll post the link to it in my next comment!

    Another one down!
    Another job well done!
The members here saved another person from getting burnt on a phony coin!
Ebay may become a decent place to find a RAW 09SVDB for those who are not looking for slabbed & Graded!
    Thanks again everyone :)

The 09SVDB has become a total minefield and some of the fakes are pretty decent. You really have to be an expert with raw ones.

On the obverse, there's a lack of sharpness in the date/mm and lettering varies and is thin in areas and appears wrong.

And of course it's a key date in a cardboard 2x2, so immediately suspicious.

Good work getting it removed.... So many of these out there... New collectors should stick to slabbed coins for these cents. Cheers, RickO
