I talked a guy at a Renaissance Festival into overstriking this coin several years back. He had a booth where he had a primitive coin press where a large weight dropped onto dies to strike tokens and charms with. I thought it came out pretty good

That's awesome! I was tempted to purchase a set from Joe Rust's collection but didn't. I'm regretting it now!

As for @MrSpud's overstrike, it should be reasonable easy to see if that was done by Ron, just ask him or post on his FB page!

I don’t think there is any record and I don’t think the guy who made mine would remember it. It was a spur of the moment thing where there was another booth selling coins at the festival and I bought the coin and went over and talked the guy making coins into doing it as a spur of the moment thing. I remember he was worried about damaging his dies, but I convinced him that the coin I wanted him to overstrike was made of soft copper and the same size as most of the tokens he was making.

I just googled renaissance festival coins and found a website that looks to be the right one because I found the eagle die design that was used to overstrike my coin. It’s this one https://quicksilvermint.com/medallions/pages/eagle.htm

I think it might be a good place to post my newest pickup. Cleveland’s Western Reserve Numismatic Club Has their 100th Anniversary this year so as a member I could have ordered a Morgan or peace dollar to be counterstruck. Or send in any coin I wanted struck. But, since I’m not a traditionalist I had Ron take a silver dollar blank and stamp his marks all over it and one counter strike for the clubs 100th year.
So now I have the pcgs graded heraldic arts coin. A test pattern for the 75th year. One gold for the 75th year (1 of 2) and now the newest.
Below shows the progression with the last being my newest piece. I showed the edge detail on the images.

One I haven't shown yet.

There was SUPPOSED to be a second - a "bookend", but the seller didn't pack it well, handwrote the label, which got shipped back and forth for six weeks to the WRONG ZIP Code . . . . . . .

When the envelope finally did arrive, it was ripped and empty. I am still fighting with Ebay over this one. They haven't refunded my money because the package shows as "delivered."

I am praying to St. Eligius for it to be found somewhere within the Postal System, but that would be a miracle beyond . . . . . .

So here is the overstrike I was waiting to arrive.

It's a 1780 Austria Theresia Austrian restrike (unexciting) that was struck with a Missouri Numismatic Society 25th Anniversary die in 1963 (intriguing).

Due to it's proximity, I was HOPING there would be an Arkansas connection, but given the look of the design and the SCJ initials, I doubt it.

Can anyone attribute the making of this piece?

Mel Wacks, over struck on 2015 Kennedy halve dollars

At first I thought this was a Mel Wacks piece, but it arrived with a certificate attributing it to a die engraver named Dan Rosen.

I've seen these get some pretty stiff action on fleaBay in the past. I usually don't participate in the feeding frenzy. I was fortunate to have gotten this one off the BST here.

Does anyone know if there are any other overstrikes by Dan Rosen? I only seem to see this one in my research.

Overstruck on a Jefferson nickel - I got this from Joe Paonessa at the Society of Bearded Numismatists meeting.

Here's a tricky one. It's an 1831 Costa Rica 8 Reales struck on an unidentified 8 reales that had been countermarked by the "Army of the North" (NORTE) in the early days of the Mexican War for Independence. So even though the coin looks like it was countermarked after it was struck, it was actually countermarked long before it was struck.

For comparison, here's an example of the NORTE countermark on another Mexican War for Independence issue.

Aloha. Now we know where 2 of these are. I also have the RHM 1990 King Honolulu dala volcano grand opening counterstamp, and the 1991 princess first day counterstamp lying around somewhere. The coins are in a lot better condition than my quick and dirty picture of them in the original capsule.

1 oz. gold Princess Kaiulani with and without the counterstamp. Mintage of the gold Princess Kaiulani is 55. The counterstamp, I've only seen one and purchased it from Hawaiian Islands Stamp & Coin in Honolulu.
