Bragging Rights...and the Proof For Posterity

Seems I've been lacking in comments the past several weeks...but not because I haven't done anything

Quite to the contrary...I've completed 5 additional Proof Sets since the Annual Awards deadline and now have a total of 33 Top Rank Proof Sets...with the last 3 coins for another on order as of today

4 additional coins will complete 2 more...so they are a work in progress and funding

When I made the decision to start upgrading My collection from a best of PR69DCAM to PR70DCAM...I never thought or imagined I would be nearly halfway to perfection in just 15 months

That will certainly slow down quite a bit as the "degree of difficulty" to obtain most of the remaining coins in perfect condition is severely diminished by availability - nonetheless the hunt and quest continues

Get after it...the 2022 Annual Awards deadline is June 30 2022 !

I reserve this space for an EDIT to update the results of submission accepted by PCGS on 8/24

EDIT: 51 Business Days later it's Friday 11/05 - 9:32AM comes the CC billing for $59
I get the email - I can see the tracking info - coin's cert went active almost exactly 12 hours later

Lookie Lookie all the Big Dogs Down...today's addition of the 2018 Kennedy Rev PR is long overdue...but the result has been worth the wait

KENNEDY HALF DOLLARS BASIC SILVER SET, PROOF (1964, 1992-PRESENT)

Addition of the 2018 Rev PR Quarters wrangles away another Top Spot...at least for the moment

And gives Me a 4th rank in the ATF Top 5

WASHINGTON QUARTERS BASIC SET, PROOF (1999-PRESENT)

And the Top Spot is again awarded with addition of the 2018 Silver Rev PR Quarters

And #4 ATF Spot due to the "Retired Sets" that are nowhere equal

Thanks...it feels pretty good to realize missing coins that should be part of a Proof Set

Getting them added was a work in itself...seems the word "Basic" made PCGS decline the requests initially

But after some added data and reconsideration they agreed - still have 2 more Proof Sets to get updated

Sadly the new ranking likely won't last - My Sets are not completed to perfection...but I'll stay atop the Rankings until those below Me realize there has been an update

They'll prolly hafta get off the beanbag and put down the Cheetos

"Retired Sets" has been argued many times in many threads...and PCGS is aware of how the rules have been manipulated far away from the initial intentions

Just like the additions of Rev Pr coins...it will get fixed - but sadly that day has not come yet

PCGS is dragging its feet...claiming an issue with the coding is not an easy fix - but I'd bet a college computer programming class could fix it over a lunch break on the campus lawn - for free

Should be simple to revoke the initial coding and replace the silly R - and those sets would drop down to the proper ranking - just the simple concept of retiring a set (but keeping the rank) makes My blood boil

Just about every year we hear about a retiring NASCAR driver - how many races do they win after retiring?

Do they still lead the points race? Do they still get trophies? Prize money? Entry into the Chase races?

I'm also pretty stoked to see that I've actually got another Top 10 Set...

Take out those "Retired" that haven't been added to in 5+ years and I've got one of the best Kennedy Proof Sets around

I really like your point of removing the (R) on a retired set in the ALL TIME FINEST. Once a set has 90% or less of a completion, it should just fall into its proper ranking position in the CURRENT FINEAST list.

It just makes sense...there are prolly a few good reasons to "Retire" a Set...but none of them are good enough for the Set to maintain a position in the ATF list that another Set easily qualifies for

Then there are examples of those who retired a set just to preserve the last ATF Top 5 position - several recent examples of this have occurred among avid and active current collectors

Retired Sets have worn out their welcome...and have become abusers - less than 95% - give em the boot - or better yet...No Retired Sets for composites with less than 1000 coins
