1978-D Ike possibly turned in the holder?

I ran across this 1978-D Eisenhower Dollar in the upcoming Stack's Bowers auction and their picture of the obverse of the coin certainly reveals a lot that isn't in the Truview picture. Most obviously the mark/stain on the forehead. Do you think this is just the angle of lighting in the two pictures or is there some substance that has revealed itself since the coin was slabbed? I'm not sure what it is (?).

It’s on the TrueView as well. This is a case where the lighting angle and style can make things more or less apparent.
It may very well have developed after it was slabbed. I can't see CAC thinking this was an exceptional 66+ with that mark on his head being there.

I agree with TurtleCat as you can see all the spotting outlines on the TV too.
Gorbachev? 🤔

@Mr_Spud you beat me to it.
Fingerprint and a splotches on the forehead . Can't believe the bid already. Looks like a $15 coin to me.

It's a shame but these things can happen.
CAC ignores plus grades when assessing coins. So at the time they stickered it, they apparently felt it was solid for an MS66, (not MS66+).

Yeah, I agree with you. The blue color around the spot just wasn't apparent to me in the TV.
After seeing your pic, the coin now seems more appealing to me!
Thanks for the information.

Thanks for my best laugh all day! I can’t unsee it now!
Yes, possible. May have looked like that in the TV pics but since has progressed!

(Actually, that's not what I meant.)
Of course not..........what the hell was I thinking?????

@jmlanzaf (You've got two pictures that conflict. )
Of course. That's why I'm kinda booking' towards they call the pictures "Fantasy View" instead of "TrueView"

The solution to this problem is to ask Stacks which picture is more accurate in hand or to offer some ideas as to why the pictures look so different.
The mark, if as visible as the pictures 'appear' to indicate, would prevent me from buying that coin. Cheers, RickO
But it stickered .
According to the forum collective wisdom, it must be among the best since it stickered. Some might even compare it to a Mercedes.
PCGS True View images are notorious for being glamour shots. I’d put my money on the auction house photos being more accurate the sticker notwithstanding. I also think the spot was there all along. It is in the latest generation plastic and you can see shadows of the spot on the True View.

Thought this was going to be another discussion of vibrating a rattler to rotate the coin...
Although not my series as I usually only see Ike's in antique or pawn shops... Those discoloration blotches are a normal occurrence on all the mint sets issued in cellophane.
pretty sure it was that ugly back when it was minted
11.5$ Southern Dollars, The little “Big Easy” set
But the marks are not usually this distracting.
66+ CAC? I don't know what to say.
It had to have turned.

yeah that is awful...
