Grocery store automatic change machine produces 1953-S cent
There are many posts about Coinstar and similar change redemption machine coin finds, but how about the grocery store automatic change machine coin finds?
I received three cents in change recently and one of them looked old. It was a 1953-S wheat cent.

It appears to have been through a lot.

A large percentage of the wheat cents I get in change (which is not a large number) have damage of some sort. I suspect collectors are just dumping them back into circulation. In spite of that, 1953-S is a date that is seldom seen.
I very rarely use cash, but it's still always exciting to look through change when I get it just in case there's something good.
Also, thank you for not posting asking if this is a DDO and worth sending to PCGS.
This one was a grocery store check out machine change find from last week.
Indeed, lotta miles on that '53-S.

They do not have change machines at my grocery stores anymore... .Not sure why. They used to. I still get change, but the clerks count it out. Cheers, RickO
That is a great circ find!
Seven years ago, I received a 53 S Cent in change at a CVS that would grade MS 65 RD. Shocked the **** out me. Didn't get it slabbed; needed a 6 for that, and it just wasn't there.

Almost 70 years in circulation. Always a thrill to encounter something old in change. Even though it's not worth much more than face value, it is still treasure.
