Dansco 7070 Type Set

Not many mint state coins in this one, so lots of room for upgrading....

Looks good. How long did it take you from start to finish? Mine took about 4 years, then I just kept upgrading... I suppose I'm still at it though I haven't upgraded a coin in about a year.

Took about 5-6 years, mainly added coins when I could while working on my other sets......> @Meltdown said:

Very nice. Have you added a gold page?

I still need a decent seated liberty dollar because the one I have is holed and plugged.

  • Texican1Texican1 Posts: 11 ✭✭✭

Not yet...I only have the quarter, half, and eagle Indians, and a double eagle in slabs...if I ever manage to get the rest I would need then I may do it....> @vulcanize said:

It's a great representation of American Type coinage. I have my 7070 set up with 20th Century in MS and 19th Century in Everyman (AU58 and below) Circulated...but in PCGS Holders only.

Nice. I have enjoyed building two sets and now on my 3rd. Took me 8 years for the first one, about 3 years for the second one and I've been 3 years on the 3rd one about 50% complete.

Another nice accomplishment. Now that all the holes are filled, how long before you get the itch to upgrade?

Cool. Good luck with that one. I have half of that page in slabs and the costs racked up real quick. :#

Surprisingly, after acquiring the gold page, my urge to upgrade the type set in a Dansco 7070 just somehow disappeared and am not too sure if it was caused by the sticker shock of some of those pretty ones.
So turned my focus to completing the 3 Cent and Trade Dollar series. Have only upgrade my Morgans from raw in a Dansco to almost all slabs (barring a few of the coins from the years 1893 and 1895 which is a work in progress and not going to get completed any time soon).

A very nice matched set! Lots of work here . . . .and of course, you mentioned upgrades, but also, keep in mind you have matched this set quite well in most coins . . . .and have a very nice effort!!!!!

Very nice set.... A lot of work there. I have not tried that one, and really lost interest in sets some years ago. I consider it occasionally now.... but probably will not do it. Really happy just collecting the coins that seem special to me. Cheers, RickO

Wonderful set. I personally don't like there are duplicates in the four Commemorative spots yet otherwise neat set overall.
(I've also not been a fan of mixing proof coins with the mint state coins- but to each their own.)

It's great, but unfortunately has some (yuck) clad coins in there.

Edited to add: It is really great... I'm working on a type set, but not actively, and some of my types have barely (or not at all) legible dates. Yours are looking fine!

I started doing a 7070 type set, about 15 years ago. Sold that one. Started another about 12 years ago. They're the most fun of almost every road there was to take, in American coinage. As assembling goes.... type set collecting offers the most enjoyment. I've tried other type set albums beside Dansco. So, I actually have two now. One is a bit more inclusive for modern type. They're all good, by me. You have my commendations, fellow collector(s).

Add the gold page. You won't regret it.

Sure you will, once your wife finds out what you spent on gold coins instead of her Birthday presents you will be up that Stinking creek without a paddle - not even a canoe! :)

What do you think about this 20th Century extended Type Set with Gold?

    I have the gold covered...

Actually, on the contrary, my wife bought me the two 20$ (Liberty and Saint Gaudens) along with the 10$ Liberty and Indian head because she knew how much I hate seeing the empty slots in the album <3

The only caveat was the coins should not cost more than spot and so I agreed to her terms and conditions to get the lower mint state grades.

Have subsequently added a no motto Saint Gaudens and a few more better condition Indian heads and Liberty heads in the raw which I need to send out for grading at some point.

Very nicely done, that's a classic set! I have a completed 7070 (no gold) and it took a few years to complete.

This is the best album to show non-collectors, you will usually get comments or questions like "wow, we made 2 and 3 cent pieces?" or "why were the cents so big?" or "what could a half cent buy?"

  • lkeneficlkenefic Posts: 8,169 ✭✭✭✭✭

Nice set! I'm on my 3rd attempt at completing a 7070. The first two times I wasn't very directed and Life intervened... this go 'round I'm down to my last 15 or so coins and should have it completed in a few more years... I'm in no rush.

Very nice, complimentary comments, but that’ll be the day that you actually crack your absolutely gorgeous coins out of their slabs, lol.

Look around to land a Dansco 7070 album because they are sort of tough to come across in brand new condition (eBay has a few used ones that make an appearence time and again with the gold page being another hurdle).
Was lucky to find a new album for 35$ at my LCS but the gold page alone was 100$ and had to source it from eBay. :s
Start out slow, fill the spots with whatever existing coinage you have and then look around for the best coins available at lowest prices.
I made the mistake of trying to rush things at times ending up with a few not so great examples and could have done way better with a little more patience but truth be told, I have absolutely no regrets because the happiness stems from seeing it all come together. ;)
It is the journey and not the destination that keeps this particular type set ticking because the key factor is to enjoy assembling it to your satisfaction.
    All the best.
