The famous PCGS slabbed cricket is up for sale. As old holders go, this one is legendary. Bidding is already more than I'd want to pay for it, but it has a far higher coolness factor than a generic in a doily with a gold sticker on it. No clue what it'll sell for, but I imagine Important Laughs™ are quite prized in this hobby.

    How did this come about? Must have been done purposefully, as their is not a grade as would be if an accident occurred.

    It say that the cricket was bothering the PCGS graders and they decided to slab it. Ex Fred Weinberg collection.

    I think it would be worth more if the cricket was in better condition.

    Not original color. Toning is not stable. Needs reholdered with a TrueView. Pass!

    Crickets are related to locusts. I hope It goes into the Tyrant collection for the “Plagues” display.

    If you've ever tried to catch a cricket, it's very doubtful it was slabbed alive!

    If in Fred's case at $500, I'd buy it - as a novelty for over $1k, Forget About It! :D

    BTW, this is not the only PCGS slabbed insect out there. When I was at PCGS in 87-88, one of the graders had some insect slabbed. (I'm thinking it was a rattler cockroach, but I could be wrong.) So Fred's cricket, important as it is, is not completely unique.
