    This is a WW1 identity disc hand-engraved on a 1916 British halfcrown.

    2nd Air Mechanic Arthur Perry (b. 1883, d.-?) was a sailmaker with the Royal Flying Corps, which was the early predecessor of the Royal Air Force. Why a sailmaker in the air force? He likely worked on the fabric-covered aircraft of the time.

    The RFC was absorbed into the RAF in 1918, so the engraving on this coin dates to 1916-18, at the height of the Great War.

    Collector since 1976. On the CU forums here since 2001.
