I have a couple of itty bitty ones that I panned myself. One from near Charlotte from where all the gold came from for the Bechtler coins and one from Alaska.

I wanted to buy some nicer (but not super nice) nuggets but don’t know where to source them without a hefty markup. I’ve gotten some flakes from the Reed Gold Mine panning in Charlotte. Next month I’ll be visiting Dahlonega for the first time and will try some panning at the local emporia. Probably will get a few flakes there as well. I hope

When you buy a nugget with quartz how do you determine the weight of just the gold? I have always wondered that when I see one like that. Sorry if that is a dumb question.

I always did like the look of native gold in quartz. The clear white really sets it off like nature intended.

That sounds awesome. Especially the quartz. I’ve really wanted a gold crystal but they are so expensive. I’ve always enjoyed seeing them in museums when I can.

I have a few small flakes from a vacation in the black hills south dakota area were they sold bags of dirt. Waste of money but it was fun. I like natural gold. Would like to purchase a 2-3 gram nugget in the future.

I bought some Alsakan dirt awhile back that had a couple tiny ones. I bought it just to practice my panning and make sure I was doing it right lol.

I have two.......I haven't ever took a photo of them though.
Does anyone remember or know the guy/coin dealer who had some 32 lb (a guess, can't remember) rock of gold on display at the larger coin shows years ago, 1990's? He'd let me hold it in one hand and I'd lift it up above my head. That was quite a chunk of gold.

I'm in Southern California. Great Great Grandpa settled here and he was searching for gold. The Hydrants are still here 150 years later. And you're right.........gold is everywhere, at least around here, but, IT'S NOT WORTH TRYING TO EXTRACT. Believe me. I've tried and it's back breaking work. Got to look for black layers of dirt in the gullies after a rain. Problem is it never rains around here. Except when it does.......LOOK OUT! FLASH FLOODS!
But......sometimes you get lucky when you aren't even trying.

You got that right....but...when I was a kid working maintenance at a hospital, my boss asked to come out and do some prospecting on the place. He did dry mining. He would dig a hole and with a pan and a 5 gallon jug of water he seemed to always end the weekend with a small vile of dust. Some people have the touch.

Yes. The largest is fashioned in a pendant Mostly from decades ago when gold was much more affordable but even then there was always a premium for gold in nugget form.

Of course California! For some reason I didn’t think you lived there. It is a lot of work when all the good stuff has already been scooped up but talk about a thrill when you find one!

I've tried numerous times to find some gold the past couple years without much luck... it's fun, it's the thrill of the hunt but it doesn't pay very well.

Really cool to have gold on your property.

I have found a few nuggets myself out in the wild.

I think I am glad there is no gold on my property because I know I would spend all time looking for it and I already know that the time and effort put into it would better spent doing something more productive.

Anybody around here collect gold nuggets?
