If you hold your coin under a bright light (halogen or incandescent) and examine it closely while rotating and tilting your coin, you'll most likely see patterns of hairline scratches.

Have to defer to the experts that had it in hand, I don't see anything wrong with it from the images. If cleaned, they only did a partial job, since there are still traces of verdigris and crud in the devices. I like that die break. Appears to be a decent enough album coin if nothing else.

The bow area seems shinier than the rest of the reverse, but that could just be the lighting when the photo was taken.

I am so bad at grading pictures.
I would have thought that this coin would have graded higher by the post pics.
When I looked at the TV on PCGS's cert page, I see that it does not warrant an Au50 grade.
The wear becomes evident. As for it being cleaned, I would need the coin in hand to tell.

Being 88.0% copper 12.0% nickel, I'd expect it to be a bit lighter than a cent of a later vintage.
PerryHall's suggestion is spot on. That will be the telling factor if it is cleaned (or, at least, the level of cleaning).
Pretty decent cent though, from the above TrueView.

The surfaces have a rippled texture and it appears slightly porous in places. I think it may have had some mild to moderate environmental degredation (corrosion) and then it was cleaned and re-toned.

This is a tough one... as others have indicated, you'd likely have to have the coin in hand to be able to discern what the graders saw... perhaps subtle hairlines or an old cleaning...

I don't think it has the usual signs of cleaning (i.e., parallel hairlines). Rather it looks to me like the coin has been considerably worked to remove verdigris and other crud. The surface color and texture look very uneven.

Lots of verdigris around the edges of the eagle. Tightly up against it, unlike the inside of the lettering.

Try opening it in a new window to enlarge.
Look above the wings for a very faint scratch running along the upper edge.
EAC guys sometimes use quills to conserve but this looks like something more harsh.

Isn't that PVC in a number of the places on both sides? The green is pretty apparent when you look at a larger TrueView.

The only area that is in any way suspicious to me, as already posted, the area inside the ribbon bow. I would not have thought it cleaned before the question was posted.

It definitely looks cleaned to me. The fields are clean enough to eat off of while the devices have gunk surrounding them. Especially unnatural looking around the date.

At some point the entire coin looked like it currently does underneath the date.

I appreciate the areas around the bow. Peace Roy

Looking at the image in the OP, I would not have called it cleaned. Enlarging the image in a new tab... well, yeah, likely. Not harshly, but the remaining crud is just in small, tight areas... Of course, that is JMO... would like to see it in hand, under good lighting. Cheers, RickO
