It is possible. I guess you would have to use your own instincts on whether its an upstanding reputable dealer or if its a shady online creep. I would think that most rolls had been gone thru at some point in time, unless they are the crimped end bank rolls and haven't been tampered with

On eBay, if you see an original roll of Morgan dollars with a CC reverse on each end of the roll, there's a good chance the interior coins are Ike dollars.

There’s a small chance it was done by a bank without consideration but in nearly every case it was done by a person.

The funny thing is we're in a coin shortage currently, I picked up some quarter rolls from the bank last week, the tellers proudly told me they had to roll them by hand...and I still found a "W" quarter! Not all bankers are collectors and may only be interested in making sure the count is right. Even when that comes to silver.

Of course they are searched. If put together by the seller, certainly. If not, they have no idea what the status of the coin roll was prior to their possession. Original bank rolls excepted. Cheers, RickO

Depends on what it is. Dealers are not going to search through 5000 wheat cents in the hopes of finding a 1914-S in decent shape. Even if you found an S-VDB every few years, it wouldn't be worth the time invested.
On the other hand, very few rolls aren't searched by somebody. If I buy a bushel of wheat cents, even though I didn't search them, odds are that the previous owner did.
It also depends on what the coin is. To assemble, for example, a roll of Morgan $s is invariably going to require looking at the coins because an UNC roll has a different price than a VF/better roll which has a different price than a F/better roll which has a different price than a roll of culls.

Dealer could buy some rolls and honestly say "unsearched by him" to an interested potential customer of those rolls.I bought two rolls of wheat pennies from an ebay seller a few years ago who claimed the rolls were original bank rolls from the late '30's early '40's era. I searched both rolls and found quite a few '37-P's but not a single one of them had any mint luster.Teens and twenties coins found in the rolls were well-worn. After I searched the first roll, I said to myself, "this does not look good." Any feedback one sees about all these semi-key and key Lincolns found in ebay "original bank rolls" are lies.

-Albert Einstein-Mistakes are natural. But repeated mistakes without reflection are something else. That may be the “stupidity” he was referring to. In research, he admitted uncertainty openly. “If we knew what it was we were doing, it would not be called research, would it?” This shows humility. Even a Nobel laureate accepted doubt. That humility makes the quote less cynical and more observational.

I had a 10000 coin Lincoln Wheat cent bag, once.
Purchased from a walk-in. I was selling them as unsearched until one of my customers returned a week later to buy more. He found 2 1924-D cents. I had my nephew start searching the bag. In his first handful was a 1914-D. A couple minutes later a 1922 No D strong reverse. I submitted those and had zero success trying to peddle them on eBay after that. Oddly, not surprising.2 -

I'd be willing to bet that you couldn't find an original, unsearched roll of Mercury dimes that were put away back in the 1930's anywhere in America. This is a unicorn.
