When does PCGS take photos and doesnt it?

I submitted some of my wife’s coins to PCGS, they were $2.5 gold coins and all of them had photos like below. She didn’t ask for the photo option yet they received like below.
I submitted several coins on a separate order and none of them had photos taken. She had 8 grading vouchers that she used. Can anyone she light on this for me?

If you request gold shield then they’ll do the pic. Since you used grading vouchers you get gold shield service by default. So that’s why you have the pics.
Ok, that makes more sense! Thank you!
Gold shield is the way to go in my opinion.

I would never send a coin in for slabbing without an accompanying trueview. I have a backlog of stuff I want to get imaged that I should have had imaged the first time around.
If I only knew then what I now know, I would have include the cost of the true view(s).

They will also take pictures if they feel like it, even if you didn't request it, but you don't have to pay for them.

I think it is worthwhile to get the pictures. They are very good pictures, a selling attribute, and a nice personal record for reference or even to view if one should sell the coin(s). Cheers, RickO
