The New Orleans Mint Museum offers three stories of attractions, including exhibits pertaining to the New Orleans Mint and its coinage on the first floor, several rooms showcasing collections of jazz history mostly confined to the second floor, and a theater for performing arts on the third. This New Orleans landmark is an absolute must-see attraction for any coin collector visiting the city, and not only because it offers a well-rounded body of numismatic material. It is the oldest existing structure to have served as a United States Mint facility.
Not to be missed is the massive collection of New Orleans Mint coinage, including Liberty Seated and Barber coins spanning the gamut of their series. Many of these coins are exceedingly rare and provide a great example of the coins that once poured out of the New Orleans Mint.

Been there, done that. Definitely worth a visit if you have a few extra hours in NOLA, especially the first floor mint exhibits..

It was neat to look at when I was there, but I did expect more.
I have been to New Orleans several times on business, never made it to the Mint there. Once I had an extra two days, but never made it out of the French Quarter.

I tried to visit once. The signage at the time was terrible to lead you inside. I guess I wasn’t too impressed like I wasn’t with the Charlotte one. I guess I just wished there was more than coins like displays with the presses and things like that. Probably too expensive or boring for most visitors, though.
Would like to visit one day!

Also spent lots of time in the Quarter, mostly eating. The mint was not open at that time. I went a few years ago and have pictures on my old PC. There is a nice portrait of J L Riddell on the wall. Was telling a few stories about him and was mistaken for a docent.
A: The year they spend more on their library than their coin collection.
A numismatist is judged more on the content of their library than the content of their cabinet.
Unfortunately it has become more of a concert venue than a museum.
Things could be labeled and explained much better.
I visited Jefferson Davis’s former home in Biloxi, Mississippi, “Beauvoir”, and the private museum there was very good with people that cared you visited.
It's just a few blocks from the French Quarter; worth a look with the Jazz museum.
I dropped by the New Orleans Mint a couple of times backs in the 1990s when I was visiting the French Quarter. It had very little as far as coin displays at the time. However, I did pick up an O mint Morgan Dollar from the souvenir shop each time that I visited. I still have them somewhere. Awesome history in that building!

Interesting Facts and Coin Statistics of the New Orleans Mint
Total Number of US Coins Ever Minted in New Orleans = 420,370,133
Over 420 MILLION Coins were minted in New Orleans and that only includes the official US currencies. As you can see, most of these coins were silver dollars, the crown jewel coin of this mint. This impressive number was during a time without modern equipment as well. These figures come from adding up all of the mintages in our database from this particular mint, which does not include the coins that had "N/A" or unknown mint figures. So the number above is conservative and the total number of coins ever minted in New Orleans throughout the entire history of the United States of America is at least this much!

Our family went to the New Orleans Mint a little less than a month ago. I have lots of pictures as well. What bothered me was the New Orleans set that wasn't there. Where are the Barber Quarters? I saw dimes and half dollars...
So being one to not mope, I made my own set with my own collection of New Orleans Quarters. Here is a picture:
At least it is my vision of what the Barber Quarters for New Orleans set in Capital Plastics holder might look like!
A Barber Quartet is made up of Nickels, Dimes, Quarters, and Halves.
Well if I ever visit New Orleans this place will be on the lop of my list for places to go in New Orleans. Hope the gift shop sells coins 😌
