Something new for me, entering a strange territory.
Hi guys,
Yes,
The Barber Dime
It's time to get into these instead of my
normal moderns. I like the look of the obverse. Here's a slow start. Not enormous or pricey. At least for now? I might try to build a set? Many varieties too! Anyone like? Lol.
Thanks guys.

I like the Barber coinage. One of the few where a series run in grades fine through extra fine don't look out of place next to each other. Which shows Mr. Barber's true talent at coinage design.
1906d Specimen Proof Barber?
Yeah, right! Lol

--- If it should happen I die and leave this world and you want to remember me. Please only remember my opening Sig Line.I picked up a half a roll, (25). 13 are really awesome. Most toners and a couple of "Liberty " on the headband. I think for my first Barber purchase, for low grades, Not too bad! Whatcha guy's think? Thanks

Well that is a major departure from your past interests. Barber dimes are nice coins and can make a fun set. Careful though, can get pricey in higher grades (and you have always been attracted by higher grades). What's next? Trade Dollars??
Cheers, RickO
I like them also. From my type set

Good luck and have some fun! I found that it was a fun set to put together. Had it in a Dansco complete for a few years and sold the set to help a friend buy a car. A good way to save a few bucks and be a bit of a diversion as well - rather than just some numbers in a bank account somewhere or a pile of hundreds.
Was it a good buy? It all depends on the price.
I thought so? $4 a piece. Fair?

Fun to search and book.

$4 each was a bit high, but a fun start to a set.
Now buy an album & you'll have to finish it.

It sounds high to me. I don't see anything there except melt value coins at current silver price levels.
Next time, consider spending your $100 on one nice Barber dime.

Fun set to collect (Except for that darn 1895-O)

You might be surprised. Check out ebay...they are selling for around double melt with full rims.
Who cares what they are going for on eBay? Consider the selling costs involved and you are back down to melt value.
Sorry, lol. You gonna think I'm nuts! I changed my mind. Lol. Thanks for all your help and posts. Can't commit!

Please only remember my opening Sig Line.I do and now that ebay came up with the cheap insured shipping option I've been moving a lot of stuff under $20 that I wouldn't list before. It's busy work but it needs to find a new home sooner or later!
Changed your mind to what?
Starting a set. Plus, chasing the Barber dimes.

Kennedys are my quest...
Shoot. Was hoping for a daily dime thread again.
Sorry

In the PCGS price guide mine were at that $4-$5 condition grade. Some were even better graded, $6-7. I figured if a coin is not that high of a grade but has a very eye appealing tone. It would make up for the lower grade value? Of course, that's if you like the tone coin? Many I bought, were toned.

But, ya gotta start somewhere.
Good luck

Congrats! It's addicting!
I just finished my set in a Whitman album.
Nah! Ya gotta pop that plug out and fill that hole!
When you start getting involved with low value coins like that you have to remember that much of the stated "value" is going to consist of the dealer service charge just to bother handling such material. When it comes time to sell the service charge amount is likely to disappear. My evaluation remains: melt value.
Nice! Who is a good source for rolls? My grandson (8 yrs old) is working on a Mercury Dime set. His grandma left him a bunch of old coins and I got him a few albums so he could organize them (Merc’s and Buffalo nickels). Once he’s done filling holes with what he has I’ll look into get rolls for him to search.
Just do it 🌞

That set is Mrs_Spud’s. Mine is similar but all at least a grade or 2 lower. Whenever Mrs_Spud found an upgrade I got the old one for my set 🌞
