I previously attended the NOISE coin show every month which is north of Chicago but they are still canceled till further notice. I would like to attend but it is too far for me. Have fun though. :)

I wont' be there but be sure to bring a mask and any other covid preventative the local goobermint requires.

Also bring protection - I couldn't bring my pistol but maybe the locals know how to prevent thefts.

Sorry for being brutally honest. ( I am an ex-Wisconsinite that used to go to the big city when it was survivable.)

Please be sure to post show reports. I wish we had coin shows here... we are wide open for all things now... No restrictions for vaccinated people (and no one can ask status). Some still wear masks - probably a way of life for some now. So... also check bullion sales... market dipping a bit...but crystal ball says - hmmm... cloudy right now... :D Cheers, RickO

The above post is entirely correct. One can get hit at any Walmart, HomeDepot, etc....just as at any coin show. That's the silly world we live in today, unfortunately. :/

I'll probably go just to say hi to a few friends. I typically can't buy anything at shows.

The comments about crime and what not are completely mis-placed. This is a beautiful southern suburb (just off I-80) some 8 to 10 miles from the city limits. It's as safe as any neighborhood you live in.

I was at the last show at the end of February 2020 that Tinley Park had. It's a nice area and good show. There's Portillo's not too far from it, grab a combination after...

I agree Tinley Park is safe. I also agree with getting a combo at Portillos.

Well since you’re talking food what is the name of that hot dog joint down from the center the ANA is at ? Looks like a little hole in the wall but you’ll think they’re giving something away the line is always so long. I hope it survived the pandemic. I just googled it. Gene and Judes. Gotta go if you want a Chicago dog when your at the ANA. they wrap a giant pile of fresh cut fries in with the hot dog.

  • tyler267tyler267 Posts: 1,306 ✭✭✭✭

Gene and Judes is a institution. Great depression dogs.

The Indian cents are mixed. He gave me 52 for $45. Not bad, huh? Later, I'll check for any varieties. $14, for the SMS.

At one table. Where he had all those sick toned Eagles, I purposely found an Eagle with that tremendous Color with the same year as my ms 68 Toned Eagle. With his ms 68, as well. I asked him how much?
Now, mind you, his has a comparison to my colored Eagle. He told me, " $495". That's what I wanted to hear!

The show looks very well set up and lit. Carpeted floors are a big plus. Those who are afraid of going to Tinley Park are really off base in their evaluation. I wish they had one of these shows when I was in that area! :)

If you don’t mind revealing, for how much did you sell the 3 Silver Eagles?

  • DollarAfterDollarDollarAfterDollar Posts: 3,215 ✭✭✭✭✭

I was there an hour after it opened Thursday. I can never buy from Dealers because I won't pay full retail + for anything but I did say hi to a few friends and looked through the auction material Bullock Auctions brought. At least the first couple of hours this was the best attended Greater Chicago Coin and Currency show I've been to for years. Lots of people looking at the available inventory.

Seemed like Dealers were going at it trading inventory, this was confirmed in a conversation I had with a Dealer friend. There hasn't been much in the way of shows in the Midwest so they were eager to do business.

If you do what you always did, you get what you always got.

    Day 3 Final Day!

Going in to sell and buy. Trying to sell the roll of 1964d BU Roll I bought yesterday? Probably take a hit but don't mind. The S.Eagles will make up for that. Expecting more crowds than the previous 2 days.

    Three Items Sold Today

The BU Roll of 64d Roosevelt's that I purchased at the show the day before. Nothing good in the roll.
    Took a little hit. $95. Lost $15, it's ok.

1940 Pf. Rev. Of 38 Jefferson

    Cherry picked for $1
    Pf. 65

    $200

    Walker 1945p ms 65

Paid for a NGC graded 64 ($60) before I crossed to an PCGS ms 65.
I sold it mentioning the very strong chance of the "missing Initials " variety.

    $300
Two of my dearest coins but, it made my wife happy. Isn't that's what's most important? Happy wife, happy life! :D
All kidding aside. I'm very pleased myself. ;)

That's a collar clash. The edge of the obverse die hit the collar die, leaving the profile of the reeds on the rim.

Unfortunately, $5 or $2.50 may also prove to be a mistake. Selling costs for items such as those are likely to be high.
