And it sold for $301. Go figure out this no reserve hype creating lunacy. Who are these collectors? Would you pay even $150?

People like to buy plastic rather than the coin.

I'm guessing this was sold to someone who only cares about the number on the label. I wouldn't spend $30 on it let alone $300.

Sorry, not my type of coin. Some people just have money to burn. Maybe they think that they can break it out, clean it up, and get a higher grade. Could have been shilled up also. I will save my money for a better example.

This coin previously sold on DLRC and Stack's.

    Here are the Stack's photos:

Interesting history you found. Surprised it even sold for $228.

Plastic collector? I've heard more than a few times: "I need a [insert coin here] in MS63" while a big show.

Yes, every coin has its price.

    Would you pay even $150?
No, that's not its price. ;)

    I've seen worse.

Relatively common so probably not. If it had a mintmark maybe.

Lets see, original check, decent strike for a type 2 check, not a typical dishhead check. Yes I would buy that coin at the right price, however my right price is less than the price it sold for.

I don't like it, but there are some people who like this sort of crusty look, especially when the luster is decent. It's a good thing too, otherwise it would drag the perceived value of coins in this grade down even further. I'm guessing it looks a little better in-hand (trying to find something nice to say).

Would I keep it if I found it on the ground or in a junk box for a junk box price? Sure
Would I pay that price in the OP's post for it based on the images? Oh hell no.

The answer for 2 people, at least, is yes.

Lot of coin shaming going on today.

I hate your entire collection. >:)

It could use conservation. But that should be taken into account when bidding.

Dark, splotchy toning like that is a poor candidate for conservation. Add in the cost of conservation and it is even worse.
It is a coin to avoid.
