Opines on a custom Capital Souvenir Gold holder and contents

fastfreddiefastfreddie Posts: 2,906 ✭✭✭✭✭

Not my series but just picked this up for $60. Custom center $5 coin holder?? ;) ...added by someone

Not my series but I believe to be genuine! I think the Souvenir pieces are plate and not worth much of anything.

8.3 grams. I call it xf/au-ish

I'm stoked believing it to be real.

    The $5 Lib looks genuine.

The $5 gold piece looks to be genuine, which makes this a heck of a bargain at $60, but California fractional "gold pieces" look like replicas.

Wow! $60 is a super steal. Where'd you find it? Antique shop?
I have a souvenir set but it doesn't have a real $5 gold piece in it...

    C-list.

I had a double take too for $60. Was figuring they were fake but he wanted to meet in a neutral place.

Someone carved a hole in the middle of the set to insert the $5. I agree with Bill Jones the fractional's look off but I am not sure. I'll have to re-shoot some to share.

Go figure someone put a real piece with some questionable fractional.

Interesting.... and looks like a score. The fractional gold looks like typical 'souvenir' stuff though.... Nice find... Cheers, RickO

agree with @ricko. The tokens are souvenir and not original period 1 or 2 fractionals. No denominations on reverse and typical souvenir obverse designs

The gold $5 is real but harshly cleaned. It's still worth a lot more than the $60 that you paid for it.
