I’ve seen several threads about waiting for grades, but how about waiting for an auction to start?
I’ve found an auction for a coin that I’ve been searching for over 15 years, and the auction doesn’t start for another three weeks! I’m already pretty excited about getting it in hand, but need to get a good bidding plan in place. When to bid, and how much. This doesn’t come up for sale too often and finding comps isn’t going to happen.

What the longest time you’ve searched and then found a piece?
This is the second piece I needed for the set. The 10cent I picked up years ago for 600 in xf45. Got this one for 1300

As for searching and not finding something, yes, the search continues for many things, 11+ years and still going.

Not really looking for much these days but if I were, it might be a toner.
I got something at heritage a few weeks ago. I was ready to punch something and I only had to wait for the 35th lot to come up.
I think a link to the item in the auction would also be of help!
Good luck on your bidding. Don't spill the beans till you have it in hand. Bid little until the end is my strategy, then just go for it.

A word to the wise.....
DO NOT TRUST YOUR INTERNET CONNECTION! GET THE AUCTION COMPANY TO CALL YOU TO PHONE BID.
Anytime you are wanting to bid on something very important to you get on the phone. Not only will you not have to worry about the internet connection and/or lag time but the company will hold the hammer to make sure you have made your final decision wether to bid or not.
It is a very simple process that has many more rewards than risks. It just worked, again, for me in the last auction I participated in. More about that after I receive the coins.......

I waited for 4 years for a nice untoned black and white early proof i needed to come up for auction in at least a 66CAM. finally one did. 66CAM, pop 12/6. absolutely gorgeous coin, i had to pay a little too much, but i finally got one i was happy with. a week later Heritage posted their next big auction that had a pop 1/1 drop dead gorgeous 66DCAM of the same date....so now i have two of them.
I'm not that hooked.

Between Hartford City, Snow Hill & Lorena Furnace West Virginia is a challenging state for CWTs even beyond the scarce "regular" merchants from the state. I wish that there was a more thorough history of this merchant -- it's one of the few that is known in off-metals only. Congrats - on to the next hole!

I don’t know if I’ll ever end up with the snow hill or furnace pieces. Maybe someday. I do live very close so snow hill. It might have been a good place to metal detect but the site is now an interstate. They are on eBay right now but out of my reach.
On a side note. I’m pretty sure These furnace tokens were from salt manufacturers. They would boil the brine (pumped up from underground) and dry the salt in long trays. Dickinson salt works is reopened now making artisanal salt.
