Howdy

Not new, but haven't posted much. Looking to participate more. Used to participate on another board. But got tired of all the political arguments. I've been led to believe that won't be a problem here.

Mostly into Worlds, Peace, Morgans, in that order.

    Welcome to the fold @Lancek

Yeah we try to stick with coins and numismatic related things, and leave the political stuff at the door. I'm glad. It makes it a nice place to visit, make friends, share and read up on things without some of the ventures into the fray.

Don't be shy posting some pictures!

Welcome! No politics here except very rarely and those that just can't help themselves are shut down quickly.
I wouldn't stick around on a coin site that allowed political discussions (slams) very long, either.

Welcome! Just curious... how do you feel about Trump & Biden both sharing a love of coin collecting, from the white house while in office and paid for mostly from yours & my tax dollars? :D

I really wanted to put this behind me. Which is why I said in my first post, I hope there would be no political discussions here. But since called out, I feel I should explain what I did and why.

I pointed out to the mods that one member was using a racist avatar of Pepe the Frog. Disguised like a pirate. A cartoon character that for some reason, white supremacist have used widely. Made me cringe every time I had to look at it. Same member was also making lots of political posts. Also their very first thread claimed that PCGS stole their coin on their last submission. Replacing it with a lower grade one. And they continued to hijack other threads with that same claim. For MONTHS. Not just a couple times. People were tired of it.

Any one of those probably would have gotten them kicked off any coin site, if the mods had been paying more attention. Pretty sure PCGS has rules or guidelines about bashing other TPGs on here.

Other people were also getting into heated political and virus/vaccine related arguments. On a thread that started innocently enough. With someone asking which coin shows would people be looking forward too, as things get back to normal. Again, if people got removed I didn't ban them. NGC did. For breaking their very visible no politics rule. It was after I had already asked NGC to completely delete my account and access.

I should not have bragged about directing the mods to the first persons posts. I regret posting that. But the fact that people continued to make political comments, even after the that person was removed, really got me riled up. And I have a disease that causes anger issues. I know some of my responses were unlike the calm normal me. Which is why I left. And left in such a way that I could not get back on and post some of the stuff I wanted to.

I thought that was the best way to put that all behind me. And now you bring it up. One of the people who defended their political rants, if I remember correctly.

I just want to talk about coins with fellow coin lovers. Can we agree to put this behind us and just focus on that. If not, I'll leave here too.

I got asked earlier on to post some of my favs or special coins. This is nothing special in terms of grade (63). But the first MS coin I ever bought raw at an auction. Pretty proud of myself at the time. Also love the back story of all the back and forth at the mint. "8 tail feather", no "7 tail feathers"

The auction was with someone who doesn't handle a lot of coins. Especially high grade ones. But someone nearby had died and the family went with the closest auctioneer. They had a 60s style Morgan holder with vinyl inserts and labels for every date, MM. Nearly, if not completely, full. And most if not all MS. At least to my novice eyes.

A little green slime. But I eventually learned a safe way to deal with that. They started with the first coin in the book, which was of course the '78 8TF. I knew I got it cheap but I couldn't remember exactly how much. So I dug through my old receipts last night, $27.50. Everybody else was saving their money for the MS CCs coming later. Those were going for $700, $800. Had I come home with one of those that early in my collecting days, I would have been sleeping on the deck.

Looking back with a little more experienced eyes, I see the flaws, fingerprint etc, today. But it's still pretty special to me just the way it is.

Huntington's disease. You can only get it if one of your parents had it. And it is extremely rare. So not likely to be something your friends have. https://mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/huntingtons-disease/symptoms-causes/syc-20356117

But there are lots of other disease that can cause behavioral changes, and specifically anger. Bi-polar, anxiety, depression.
Even dementia and Alzheimer's. Starting to forget where you put things, or an appt you had, or your sense of time and place can be very disorienting. People often lash out.

I contacted Dena and asked that she delete my account. I didn't start any political stuff, but I felt that some of my responses to those that did were worded a little too strongly. Probably because of my anger issues. And I was embarrassed by that. I felt it was better for me mentally if I just left. I was looking for a place where I could just talk and learn about coins. So I came here. And now it creeps up again. Had everyone stuck to coins, like the rules say...

You do not recall correctly, I made a simple harmless joke (yes it was about a political figure) to which you freaked out about and went on a rant over how I was ruining the forum for you. And then you attempted to have me banned ats as part of your parting rant, which failed btw, so I have no patience for you. I said what I said so others know that you might explode because someone posts a joke or a cartoon character that for some unknown reason you find offensive.

Do you know there are many symbols or figures that have throughout history been totally benign until a group or organization adopts it as a symbol to represent themselves which may then change the perception of that symbol going forward. The symbol that we now call the Swastika is a perfect example, for thousands of years it was considered a sign of well being and good luck. Even today there are some cultures that still use the symbol as a positive one, in the western world it was not until the Nazi party adopted the tilted version which is now associated with the evil and antisemitism of that party. Perhaps the issue you have with a cartoon avatar stems from your own issues and may have had nothing to do with the individual that you targeted your rage on; for all you know he may have been totally unaware of the association that you disapprove of.

I am not asking you to leave and I do not care if you stay or go, nor do I have any say in that matter, but do not expect to attack me as you did ats and think that I will have any respect for you.

Welcome and stay with coins. Show us your coins, ask questions (about coins or related to coins), give advice to others, use your knowledge to answer questions that a new collector may ask. Most posters here try to be helpful . And just ignore the ignorant comments made by agitators (trolls), trying to stir up trouble and have nothing else to do.
