Here is a scarce Hard Times Token, a Low 57, which was issued for Martin Van Buren's 1840 presidential campaign.
The question is, what is guarding the treasure chest? Is it a dog, mountain lion or monkey?
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?5 -

How about a couple of plow horses? This was issued during U. S. Grant's 1868 presidential campaign. It refers to the concession Grant gave to the Confederate soldiers during the surrender at Appomattox. He allowed the solders to take their horses home for the spring planting season. It was very much in keeping with Grant’s campaign theme, “Let us have peace.”

The best rendition of an American Bald Eagle on any US coin in my opinion and our current Boston Dylan.

From my Collection of Special Medals for U.S. Government Agencies. In this case here, the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) 2nd highest award, the Distinguished Intelligence Medal.
Awarded for performance of outstanding services or for achievement of a distinctly exceptional nature in a duty or responsibility, the results of which constitute a major contribution to the mission of the Agency.
These examples were struck by the U.S. Mint. Frank Gasparro design: Obverse (FG between the right talon and eagle's tail) and reverse (FG in the semi-circle bottom on the right). I call this the menacing eagle design.
Two types of reverse engraving pads. Awardee name hidden on purpose (these are jock strap medals).
