Something special I've never done before...a box of half dollars!

Chase here in Denver NEVER has halves and I've spoken to my favorite teller about it before...last week she offered to order a box and I thought...YES!!!
I have never searched a box of halves before, ever.
I've got that little kid excitement
The last few rolls of halves I got were from the Credit Union of Denver and they had a handful of sharpie marked coins, so someone is obviously searching regularly through those credit union rolls.
I also grabbed a few more beautiful shiny quarter rolls with the hopes of some W's knock on wood!!!
And she pulled out a few customer rolls and told me they aren't from a collector or a business...she's pretty sure they were from someone's change jar, so I'm hoping for something cool in there too!

That darker/dirtier half dollar ender in the middle of the box may be silver. Hope you find some good stuff!

A Walker or two would be nice.
Best of luck!
Good luck with your search... I rarely was successful with halves.... but others do quite well. Cheers, RickO
Good luck!
Let the search begin.

Here's the thing about searching half dollars... Your odds of any one box having something good are slim to none.
The appropriate way to search halves is to order 4-6 at a time in hopes of catching a "vein" of silver halves that was dumped into the counting/wrapping machine. They're usually concentrated in 1-2 boxes, sometimes 2-3 depending on how much silver was dumped.
That's not to say you can't get lucky otherwise, but searching halves is a numbers game and the more swings you get at the pinata, the more likely you are to break through.
Best of luck.

I agree with DelawareDoons. Last week three of my weekly boxes were skunks. The fourth yielded 38 40% silver coins. This week, zilch.
Silver is an exciting nice surprise...but I'm not a silver searcher or I would be ordering halves quite a bit...and searching even more quarters...and I search A LOT of quarter rolls! I've only come across one single silver quarter during the last year and that's been many hundreds of rolls

Good Luck on your search, you never know what you will find until you look.
Went through a box yesterday with my daughter. We had a good time but no silver for her today.
Good luck and have fun!!!

Yes, good luck, my friend. Take your time.
Watch for the 72d No FG. Found one myself by exactly what you're doing. You might come across many NIFC's. It's up to you but I would only hold the lower mintage ones. That's up to you.
Good Luck.

Halves are the most fun. You could find lots of goodies. In my last 2 boxes that I searched yesterday, I found 3 - 90% silver and 7 - 40% silvers and 8 NIFC's. Along with a half-a-half magician's coin.
Pm me your address and I’ll send you a half
I’ll see if I can dig up something decent

Ok, got through 15 out of the 50 rolls tonight...
Taking a close look at every single one being careful not to miss anything.
The very first roll had a sharpie mark from the same roll hunter who's been marking coins at the Credit Union of Denver lol! These rolls are from Chase. I ran into about 6 marked coins by what looks like 2 different hunters both using sharpies, argh. I know acetone...but still, it's rude lol.
No silver yet.
One ok condition 2005 NIFC.
One YouTube channel advertisement (yes, you heard me lol!).
One 1996 in an almost MS condition with lots of fogging, but pretty in hand.
One 1977 with some pleasing gold toning (I was losing my light so it was tough to photograph).
Switching to some quarters for a bit...

Warning...a bunch more photos...just did 16 more rolls @Crypto
Still no silver. That dirty looking ender on the roll in the middle...just a dirty coin lol.
Out of these next 16 rolls I got at least 20 coins with sharpie marks...some of them marked multiple times in different colors. Note to self...half dollars in the Denver area are getting searched a lot at multiple banks by searchers who like to sharpie the coins lol!
19 rolls left to go in the box!
But I did get two nice MS condition halves from this batch. A 1971-D and a 1996-D
Way too many marked coins showing up!
The 16 rolls I just did...

Switch to smaller banks and credit unions is something to try. When I did a ton of roll searching 10 years ago I could find rolls full of 64-70 and once I even got a half roll of late 70s-80s proofs. Best of luck!

That's what's kind of funny to me...I went to the two Denver Credit Union branches during the last month and found not only similarly marked halves, but some that have the exact same marks and initials in some cases lol.
Thanks for the tip though! I think the problem is that pretty much every bank in the Denver area is serviced by Loomis.

I must be off my game. That really did look like silver to me. It's been a couple years since I've CRH halves. At one time, I was searching $2k in halves once every other week. I had 1 bank where I would get the halves and 3 dump banks. Yeah, it got crazy. I started to slow down once I got older and had more school work to do.

No silver is a bit disappointing but still fun to search.
